It seems a nice project. What percentage of the old distillery buildings will be preserved and reconstructed? Looks like most of them.

A bit unrelated, but:

I think this Wiki page has some good information for people who don't know anything or little about the destruction of Warsaw during WW2;

Planned Destruction of Warsaw

It is not only about the Uprising, but it documents the destruction itself. The number of historic buildings destroyed, the way the buildings were destroyed, the looting, etc.

It's very interesting (but also a bit depressing, especially if you're Polish and reading what happened to your city..)

I also recommend watching Andrzej Wajda's War Trilogy, in which the Warsaw Uprising is covered several times. Old movies, but true classics and must see for anyone who likes history .

Ashes and Diamonds

Kanal

A Generation (I believe this one is about the Warsaw GHETTO Uprising, not the Warsaw Uprising in '44. It's been years ago since I last watched it, so don't remember exactly. But just as interesting!)

It is very sobering reading about what happened to Warsaw which still many around the world don't really know about. And it was indeed one of the greatest single crimes of WWII along with the Holocaust, the complete physical and cultural annihilation of a people and its culture was the goal in both these instances. It's sad for many us especially since it reminds all of us of the depravity and evil that humans are capable of. Despite all of this suffering countries like North Korea and Russia are still brandishing nuclear threats against other countries to have their way using fear or rather terror. Sadly the world has not evolved much further than 60 years ago.

Since you're interested in this subject, the best book I have ever read about the Warsaw Uprising is Alexandra Richie's Warsaw 1944: Hitler, Himmler, and the Warsaw Uprising

the chose a nice greyish recessive colour for the walls that makes the light pilasters, sills and lintels and other details pop just enough.

Stronski Palace on Nowy Swiat Street from 1780's by Szymon Bogumil Zug. Almost completely survived WWII with some unfortunate changes post war:

Pre war

Recently

Now

and the corner building is getting facelift too - trying to determine if it is original pre-war

Corner looks original. But still missing balconies, some detail on the cornice, pilasters and those two "finials"

thanks Henry for the pre-war pic. it looks original, I thinking adding those brackets or dentils would be very nice and not so time-consuming if the used prefabs. Look forward to seeing this in person.

Looks like palace above may have lost its roof, so might be an exaggeration to call it fully intact.

Prudential building restoration to its original art moderne style and redevelopment continues with interior work, construction of the flanking stair shaft towers and fašade works.

Finishing touches on Koszyki Market:

thanks Fredi

I am additionally pleased that this landmark corner at Koszykowa/Piekna destroyed during WWII is finally being rebuilt with a modern structure:

note that there will still be a small gap between the corner and the next building on this street face.

Pre war:

and the middle building

you can see the ruins of Koszyki Hall in 1939 here

Is there an estimated time of completion for Koszyki? I'll be in Poland in early September and was curious to see it in person.

Koszyki is opening in early September, looks like you might make it. The area around it is very interesting in any case.
