Impressive thread. How much of the old town has been reconstructed since the war?

I would say about 85% of it has been reconstructed as it appeared from the outside maintaining a considerable portion of original gothic basements and vaulting. Since the medieval walls were uncovered and reconstructed prewar buildings in those areas were not reconstructed. Overall an amazing job earning UNESCO designation.

I would say about 85% of it has been reconstructed as it appeared from the outside maintaining a considerable portion of original gothic basements and vaulting. Most churches were rebuilt as they were largely except St. John's reverted to a more idealized Mazovian gothic version. Since the medieval walls were uncovered and reconstructed prewar buildings in those areas were not reconstructed. Overall an amazing job earning UNESCO designation.

Tiaren, I have largely limited my discussion to reconstructions, restorations of historic buildings and landscapes and in some cases infill that repairs the street face of the public realm. I suppose in the case of the brewery, this is really largely a revitalization with some restoration of the palace and some brewery structures. The latter development does repair the urban fabric, but this is a bit of a stretch. As for the waterfront this is a restoration of Warsaw's waterfront in a contemporary fashion.

To be fair, Berlin's reconstruction of the Stadtschloss is not literally a historic reconstruction either as it is a substantial ultra modern building with one historic fašade.

As for landscapes many of Warsaw's public squares are being revitalized and re-pedestrianized. I think in these cases although modern aesthetic solutions are being employed, this is still the restoration of a historic public space. This I feel is in keeping with the purpose of this thread and the 'European Classic Architecture' thread, especially in view of the Venice Charter and the limits it places on some historic reconstructions.

So in keeping with the essence of this forum, I will limit myself to revitalizations, reconstructions and redevelopments where there is a substantial historic component (as in Dresden and Frankfurt) that is being restored. I ask others to abide by these rules. I hope Tiaren this is satisfactory.

Lots of renovations in long neglected Praga district. As I predicted a few years ago, this is going to be the hottest neighbourhood in Warsaw, very hot, actually already is (sorry if I sound a little like Trump). Wish I had bought there earlier.

Kłopotowskiego 38 - complete inside-out restoration

Interwar kamienice look amazing when cleaned up:

Słowackiego/Cieszkowskiego

Zabkowska

Long awaited Brzeska

First phase consisted of major repairs, joist replacement, reinforcement of foundations, new roof, dismantling of large sections of brickworks due to rot:

After renovations, future local cultural centre (forgive the graphics, I think it will look better than that.
