Brzeska 18 in Warsaw's Praga district undergoing a complete restoration and upgrade along with many other such original pre war structures in this district....more to come.

The building is from 1914 and is a unique blend of styles, modern with secessionist elements along its shaft with a neo-Baroque roofline/cartouche with mansard.

Here are a few more cosmetic renovations, some of them more dramatic than others:

Wola District - Hrubieszowska 7

Before

https://www.google.pl/maps/@52.23004...7i13312!8i6656

Miedziana 16

Downtown

Wilcza 71

Before

Aleje Ujazdowskie 47

some more nearby

Mokotowska 52

This one should be more dramatic. Miedziana Street has the largest ensemble of intact pre war kamienice in Wola district (site of Warsaw Ghetto and Wola Massacre destruction). Piękna Street has the second largest ensemble and the block including Zelazna, Pańska, Miedziana and Chmielna (along with some buildings at edges has the largest concentration of "survivors" (ostańcˇw):

Some Updates

Europejski Hotel

Updates and Unveilings on main road to old town - KP (Krakowskie Przedmiescie):

Carmelite Church from 1661-81

Royal Castle

Kamienica John

Pre war

Recently

Now

Along Mostowa Street - most of these are post war recreations of historic buildings. Would be a great idea to find out how many original basements survived.

whole street is getting a facelift

New Town Market Square - many of these especially on the south side have strong socialist realist accents

South side of square today

Post war reconstruction made this market more provincial looking. An example of the types of buildings that stood here pre war:

Freta 29, 31 Street

Pre war

thanks arkadiusz for recent pics.

The east side of Freta Street has had a complete facelift:

Many of these survived the war reasonably intact and or look very similar to pre war version. Numbers 30 and above to the corner of the new market were relatively intact according to BOS documents.

Old Orangery - Lazienki Park

The Old Orangery was built to house exotic trees in the winter season. It is also a place which is very closely linked to art and culture. The Royal Theatre is situated in the Old Orangery, as is the Gallery containing Stanisław Augustĺs collection of sculptures.

The Old Orangery was raised in the years 1785-88, according to a design by Domenico Merlini, court architect to King Stanisław August. The Royal Theatre is one of the few surviving authentic eighteenth-century court theatres in Europe, and the only one of its kind in Poland.

I caught a glimpse of the restorations a while back prior to completion, was very impressed by the trompe l'oeil effect. It would be great to see a performance in the Royal Theatre maybe with 18th century musical instruments. Beautiful venue for a special event. Wonder if they rent these premises out.

I really dislike the magnolia paint used in a lot of these restorations. Really cheapens the look of the building

But regardless, great to see old buildings in shape again. So I feel bad complaining really

This colour and various shades of light yellow are traditional Warsaw colours. Warsaw was once called the yellow city in this regard.

Yellow is overused in Poland I would say, especially with renovations. It's also very popular on coimmieblocks and doesn't fit very well at all.

I think it looks good on neoclassical buildings, but not the bright yellow you indeed see on commie blocks but more a soft ecru.
