A little historic trivia:

In this limestone-clad building at the corner of ul. Chocimska 33 Chocimska Street and Skolimowska housed the the BOS (Biuro Odbudowy Stolicy) from 1945-1952, the institution established immediately after the war that coordinated the herculanean task of rebuilding Warsaw.

Built from 1925-30, designed by Maksymilian Goldberg and Hipolit Rutkowski

thanks JankoskoKaś and drugastrona for pics.

For those of you interested in the interiors of Warsaw tenement houses that survived WWII and some off-the-beaten track sites:

Warsaw's Museum of the History of Polish Jews is complete. The complex process of installing the elaborate exhibitions has begun, almost as complex an undertaking as the building of the museum itself. The museum is located in Muranow, part of which was a walled ghetto during WWII.

thanks abes

yes the war is over and hostilities and recriminations have pretty much ceased, but the city is still in the process of rebuilding. much left to do. much of historic building stock not yet rebuilt may never be rebuilt except for landmarks such as the Saski Palace.

It's one of 3, or something like that.
But it looks like a great place to hang.

It looks like a half emptied garbage bag surrounded by trash.

No doubt the contents of the museum are interesting.

Then what a grand architect he is! I can only imagine the amount of discipline, talent, and taste it must have taken to design such a building. How cutting edge it is of Warsaw to be scattering trash about herself.

Certainly puts the Pantheon to shame, now doesn't it? Heaven forbid an architect design buildings to be beautiful.

the Old Town street paving is being restored. Streets will be repaved with as much reclaimed old granite stone in situ as possible whereas the sidewalks will be paved in a unique material imported from Italy called porphyry. This igneous rock has large-grained crystals and purplish and red hues that will pick up on the colourful townhouses of the Old Town.

It should all be complete by 2015. The main square is being restored this and next year.

mostly reclaimed granite and basalt for roads:

original pre-war curbstones will be re-used except for corners where specially carved singles pieces of granite are being installed:

What I don't understand with Warsaw is why they chose to rebuild the city wall with bricks?

the city walls were originally built of brick and most of the original walls were still in existence pre and post war, hidden under tenement houses, portions deconstructed for their bricks for tenement houses over the centuries. what you see there is largely original.

You're opinions are quite extreme. This building is creative and therefore I like it. It stands out. It wouldn't be out of place in Rotterdam, in my opinion.

Constructive criticism is ok. Stupid criticism is not.
