I would even tolerate a facadectomy on the Hotel Victoria to bring back the pre-war elevation.

I have heard the draft of the zoning plan for the area allows for the reconstruction of Kronenberg Palace. Of course if the owner of the hotel would like to do so which is highly unlikely from an economic perspective.

Construction of monumental socialist realist MDM starts along a widened right-of-way on Marszalkowska Street

MDM today - complex is undergoing a gradual restoration

everywhere you look superb details

Warsaw loves neon

frieze depicting designers of MDM over model of future development

buildings tucked away behind MDM that survived the widening

Thanks JankoskoKaś

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Restoration/Reconstruction of Secessionist Koszyki Hall begins along with construction of two new office buildings on either side, completion 2015

The central hall was dismantled for repair and restoration, many components may need to be replaced in the reassembled version

Szczęśliwego Nowego Roku!!!

Totally agree! Not only was there a very fine building on the site, to add insult to injury they built a non descript 70's heap of shit to replace it. It would look more suitable in downtown Caracas than beautiful Warsaw. Would be great if they got round to reconstructing the lost building but I guess it's not on the agenda.

Renovations/Restorations 2012 or Recent - Summary (Not a complete list)

To sum up renovations of last year or so, most did not have original decorations restored sadly, but they look much better:

was supposed to be a complete restoration, not sure what happened, maybe Warsaw's conservators enforced uglification policy won the day in the end.

not sure why commies built this right next to the historic walls. commies were an ideologically and morally confused bunch, they often pulled down intact buildings post war and repalced them with this or socialist realist versions or built ersatz provincial-scaled historic buildings where larger-scaled originals were destroyed.

the worst I have ever seen, desecration of an historic building

much more to come...thanks Ring for your hard work that is the basis for this survey

Great poster by Oslo2022 to promote reconstruction of Saski and Bruhl Palaces dynamited by Nazis during the war. First plan of Warsaw shows built area pre-war, then in red destroyed area during war and last plan shows surviving or intact areas - Amazing work!

Really nice comparison. Probably based on a famous map of Sigalin.
