The church above was destroyed in the war but now I think it's one of Warsaw's finest.

The Warsaw Uprising Museum produced in 2010 a stunning 3-D film recreating what a B-25 bomber would have seen in 1945 while flying over Warsaw. The short 3-D film is 6 minutes and reportedly quite shocking and moving to watch because of the realistic imagery. I'll see it in May.

is amazing how Warsaw name includes it´s history, Warsaw War-saw.

do you know which percentage of detroyed Warsaw was reconstructed?

most experts and those on the Polish forum agree generally on a number between 40-45% but this is if you define reconstructed a little loosely. This includes districts of Ochota, Mokotow, Zoliborz, Powisle, Wola (the most destroyed) along with the centre or Srodmiescie. Even in completely rebuilt areas someone who remembers pre-war Warsaw may not see some familiar landmarks as earlier versions (18th century usually) were rebuilt in their place or a socialist realist version such as on Nowy Swiat in some cases.

all the points you made apply to Warsaw, I will show the empty plots later in this thread where pre-war buildings can be reconstructed when I have a chance to visit Warsaw later this year. of course in many cases the reconstruction of pre-war buildings may not ber financial viable or desirable especially if it means tearing down a large 20 storey commie block to build 5 storey tenements, but there may eb a way to do this if higher densities were allowed in the interior and on corners

There are hardly any "20 storey" commie blocks in Warsaw or Poland but you are right it's impossible.

right, they are generally around 12-15 stories, but it is definitely possible to return Warsaw to a place and space defining urbanism in those areas blighted by commie block building-in-the-park type of development when higher densities make it economically feasible. It's already happening along Grzybowska and Prosta and pockets here and there.

Usually it's 4-10 storeys, 15 appear in bigger cities but they are rare. Anyway Grzybowska is more like an exception rather than rule since it's in the city center and you should know that developers don't really follow traditional urbanism when they don't have to and inhabitants of this districts prefer "building in the park" rather than "high density" in fact so do most people. They don't allow development right behind their windows that will block sunlight, roads etc. But it's getting OT
