BUCHAREST | Cathedral of Redemption

Hell, it's a highrise after all so let's give it a shot here!

I know it will create some waves but also interest.

If you're interested, this is their site:

It's currently U/C apparently.

Quote:
Nation Redemption Cathedral to cost almost 200m Euro, will create 4,000 jobs

Construction of the future orthodox Nation Redemption Cathedral will cost approximately 100 million Euro and the company that won the tender to handle the project is SC Vanel Exim SRL of Bacau, Romanian Patriarchy representatives said on Friday. A total of seven projects took part in the contest. After the cathedral is built, 100 million Euro more will be spent for paintings and esthetic investments.

Construction works will begin after August 15 and will end in 2013, while cathedral paintings are to be blesses in 2015. The cathedral will be built so as to face 8.5 Richter magnitude quakes and the works will help create about 4,000 new jobs.

It will be the tallest building in Bucharest. It will have an overall length of 120 meters, 70 meters in width and the tallest spire will be 120 meters high. The cathedral's surface will be ten times smaller than the Parliament Palace, next to which it will be erected.

For this construction, the Romanian Patriarchy will not get money from the state, but contract a loan and the money will be repaid from donations. Those who wish to donate more will have a special account at their disposal.

I presume it's going to be difficult for us to get into the Parliament's courtyard to take pictures, but we hope for regular updates from the Patriarchy's various websites and maybe for journalistic reports.

BTW: there is an official confirmation from the Patriarchy that works have started in December 2010. In fact, I myself met several concrete trucks exiting the site, so it's full blown U/C now.

BTW: since probably a lot of people would ask about sources of financing, there will be little public financing (about 5% of the estimated cost). Most of it comes from the Church money, private donations, and public collection.

Also, the Catholic Church donates some moneys but I don't know how much.

For those that dont know well Bucharest : And it will be neighbor with... yes, famous communist Parliament Palace, former House of the People ! So being on the same small hill, will make the cathedral even some taller vs most of rest of the city.

Older Photos (nov 2010) with the site preparations and PP near in the background

http://forum.metrouusor.com/viewtopi...tedrala#p28062

BTW the complete name is Cathedral of National Redemption (hope good translation).

You are right! It will stand as the highest building in the city, even after the Sky Tower will be completed, because it's on top of the sole hill in the downtown.

We just need a bigger Jesus now on that hill (at least 200 m high to go straight to skyscrapers in World Development Forums) and Bucharest will be totaly redeemed. No more sins, no more whores, no more bad urban planning etc.
