edubejar: Nice work, but for example Prague rapidly grew in size between 2000-10, with all those new logistic parks, malls, satellite housing and other residential development, road connectors etc. etc. - most of it on the 'virgin' soil, not a redevelopment. Whole CEE was still very undeveloped territory back in 2000, I don't know if this is known to you, but people are moving from the appartments to the row and single houses in the suburbs in high numbers.. however the imagery seems to be some 5 yrs old so I have no problem here. (and don't want to be accused of trolling.

Thanks guys. Norkey, your observation regarding Prague is very much welcome because it is done in a civil manner.
Yes, most UA's here have seen construction/development/redevelopment. It's the risk one will always see with aerial and satellite imagery. Some of the cities here will be more outdated than others. It is my observation that cities like London, Paris, major German cities, Brussels and other major cities in Western Europe will often have great, updated coverage, like US cities. Anyone is welcome to mark up with red polygon shapes areas that are now developed and post on this website. All are also welcome to suggest if the imagery shown here appears to be 10 or more years and to describe on what they base that. However, please note that I am using 2 different image services. Some UAs like Paris and Berlin, I am using both depending on the quad because one was a better quality over the other for a given quad (e.g. to avoid cloud coverage or even no coverge in one particular image service). One of those services is from Bing Maps. Google Maps cannot be used in this project. In the case of Athens, both image services were serving the same imagery source. |

Well, Moscow isn't new as well. Around 5 years old. Moscow expanded in many kilometers in some ways. Though, all expansions are outside of that 900 sq km range

Amazing thread
I don't think we have to argue on the 'age' of the maps: to find updated maps for every single city is very difficult; and edubejar did a great job

Ya, it's my intention to put most capitals including Sofia. For example, I will not put Monaco and Andorra-la-Vella but most capitals I will

Oslo has been added between Moscow and Paris (Page 5). I plan to work on Riga next, which will be added on top of Rome.
Here is Rotterdam. Rotterdam-The Hague is considered by some an UA. They are major Dutch cities that have almost merged together. The merging is a bit uncertain but they do seem to come together at some point. I had to really shift the center point of Rotterdam in order to show some of The Hague. Rotterdam's city-centre should still be in the Center quad. Not sure if the NW quad shows the center of The Hague since I only have to be concerned on getting the center of Rotterdam in the Center quad. Don't forget also about Saint Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Rostov-na-Dony, Volgograd, Samara, Saratov, Kazan. All of them will be in top.

Amazing thread, i love it. Thanks, edubejar!
PD: as you said before, maybe Madrid's outer neighborhoods have changed significantly in the last years. But however, in the pics you used the urbanization lands are clearly seen, so no problem. Keep'em coming!

I'm having some issues with Riga right now so I'll continue for now with Saint Petersburg.

![]() Mmmh... London one is just the datus of Greater London area, while the others, bigger 2 and three times the GL, seem a bit oversized: for istance Moscow UA is not more than 4 times the size of the municipality, which is a little more than 1000 skm and has 11 mio inhabitants. Even considering a population of 15 mio (that actually is the population of the capital region, way bigger than 4500 skm) you should have a population of 4 mio in 3500 skm, an 'urban' area less dense than Phoenix one, for istance, that notoriously is a city with a very low density. And this very very low density is around a very very high density core. Maybe the urban area is a bit oversized, or at least the parameters for Moscow are different from the one of London, that certainly has a similar density around the core of Greater London These data are at least disomhogeneous Anyway, that's not the proper thread
