Yeah I kinda agree, although in the UK we have lights on this layout as well as on the opposite side. The stopping line is also pushed back so that in principal a driver should be able to have a clear line of sight, If they stop to close they won't, plus they'll be on the pedestrian crossing. Anyway I've tinkered too much with them already I don't think i'll change them now, but its something to think about for the future.

Fair enough. I don't think I've ever seen that layout here in North America. But of course it's up to you and I like it regardless.

The traffic light detail that you mentioned Quall has been bugging me, I will eventually get around to changing them I think.
Been concentrating mainly on creating various street furniture details. Here's some bollards. ![]() and street signs. ![]() Bonus shot of Harpers

Thanks for the comments
. I do fear I maybe overly ambitious in relation to this city. A few months have gone by and all I have to show is about 3 buildings haha. Still hopefully once I build up the street furniture details things will get quicker. A few new parts have been modelled. The 'Tsar Bar' next door to the modern apartment block that was first modelled along with the complexes underground car park. The landscaped area around this has been given over to a public space, something that will be lacking along many of the proposed streets - I want to try and build up that dense NYC look. ![]() This is a new service alley behind 'Harpers' deptartment store. The texture has bump ands reflective channels to give the appearance of puddles. The chain link fence was a texture I originally made for Chrisheem (my original 3D city some 3 years ago)!. A simple bent fence post can infer a more realistic image, something I'm keen to explore - an inperfect city appeals more to me than a perfect city. ![]() Finally a render showing whats been modelled so far - not much at all really!

Thanks guys. Maybe I should set up a real bar called the Tsar Bar - I actually did come up with that name.
The textures are from various sources. I'm using CG textures for a lot of the road and material textures, like rust and galvanised metal on the signs. The facades are from different images, some in CG textures, but also from Flickr. The way I'm going about the construction is by taking elements from the building photo like a window, section of wall, window cill detail etc and then applying those to the model. By making the facade textures as separate sections rather than a straight texture of the whole facade gives me a lot more freedom. With Sta Fee I wnet for the whole facade texture approach, which was fine when seen from a distance, but broke down closer up. With my new way of texturing I can create a much more detailed building, which keeps its resolution even when in close up, plus I am not restricted by the texture i.e With Sta Fee the texture defined what the building looked like. I can now design the building exactly with no restrictions on width, floors, height, plus I can chop and change/mix and match different windows with different brickwork etc. Its allows me a lot more freedom. |

Thankyou, Yes I have been influenced by GTA4 which I am currently playing. My main inspiration came from a visit to New York last year.A tree grate detail - a neater way for a tree to meet the pavement. ![]() Fire escapes - As you can see these are based directly of New York style details. First version showing standard construction. ![]() Basically I'm making 3 separate components, the standard fire escape platform which can be copied depending on number of floors, the base platform with ladder and the top platform with enclose ladder. ![]() Once these 3 parts are built I can then modify the colour, balustrade details to create different variations.

uhm the complicated balustrades are amazing but personally i don't think that they fit well on a fire escape
![]() everything else is as perfect as it can be...as usual!

i don't think so. the fire escapes are mostly on the side of the building which faces away from the streets. so why should you decorate a railing with such complicated stuff if almost nobody can see it?
