I have made some standardised components for the roof, which can be copied to speed up the workflow. The watertowers are obviously NYC inspired. The aircon plant are a mixture of industrial sized units down to household products.

Looking great! But are the mills in the aircon Texture, or are they modelled?

the 'Mills' I guess you mean fan blades? No is the easy answer. They are simple boxes with bump mapped textures. I cannot afford to get too detailed on the modelling, I'm having to think like a game designer and trying to keep the polys at a reasonable level otherwise this things is going to collapse before I make a single city block! I am however using pretty high res textures to allow a degree of flexiblity once it comes to rendering.

Wow pingyao! Your work is amazing. You are a modeling and texturing master! The level of detail you get is incredible. You've inspired me to start making my own detailed city in Blender 3D. It is slow going because I don't have much time or your skill, but I am learning a TON about modeling and texturing in the process.

A few questions though, how did you do your streets? Are they all modeled and textured separately? That has been my biggest challenge so far. I'm having a hard time finding good textures. Do you create your own or have a huge library?

Keep going on your city because it is incredible!

Thanks cob05, The streets are just roughly modelled with an applied texture. I use a basic road texture from CGtextures website, and then slightly edited in photoshop, most important thing is to make sure its tiled.

Have had a little break, went away for a week and now busy with work. But here's an update from week before, showing where I am overall.

And here is a detail of the wall of the building on the right in the image above. This is the elevation facing the service alley.

very impressive once again, though i wonder if you'll do some taller buildings like skyscrapers or supertalls someday? because i can't wait to see how a supertall made by pingyao would look like

Believe me it is so tempting to start work on a 300m+ building, but I must resist! Actually There is no reason that I haven't made one other than I have plans for where the taller buildings will be and they're not on the current block that I'm working on.

Here is a map of the city so far. Classic NYC style grid. You can see not a hell of a lot has been filled so far. Making these roads is a laborious task - I'll probably concentrate on filling up these blocks now rather than extending the map out further.

I noticed the vertical ones are British towns :3 but where's Dorest? Do you mean Dorset? Looking very stunning can't wait for that tipping limit where I faint from the brilliant detail. Oh hold on their states, still it's Dorset :P though Dorest is a constituency? of it

Well spotted Ying - I actually meant 'Dorset' not 'Dorest' as typed incorectly in Photoshop. Fear not the street signs will be correct. They are actually named after English Counties, but in the case of 'Gloucester' without the 'shire' on the end.

Ok, so I have been concentrating on street details, namely lamp-posts. This is an example of the street lights, again based on New York style designs.

Central split double.

Side single.

Yeah that part of the model is where I'm building various components. I need to move them into position.
