It looks like the soil is perfect for building. No rock, like in NY for example, where they have to drill and dig their way to the bottom. But also no soft mud, like here in Holland, where we need to have pumps for water drainage and strong walls so the pit won't collapse because of the outer pressure.

Wuhu is a nice little city. It's developing really fast, as it's one of the key cities in Anhui (the other is Hefei, the capital). It ranks pretty high in company R&D/innovation in a few industries (in terms of #of patents...
For some strange reason, the other cities in the Pearl Delta (Shanghai, Nanjing, Hangzhou, etc) are all blocking Anhui from joining their exclusive club...

Anyways, don't worry, most Chinese don't even know Wuhu...

You are right, subterrain condition affects the foundation work greatly. Just look at how long it too them to build the Shanghai Tower (soft mud) and Ping'an (extremely close to subway station).

Interesting! I never thought of that before, but it makes sense. Lujiazui used to be kind of ” marshy,” right?

Yes. They even say that Lujiazui as a whole sank a few centimeters because of all the new buildings.
