Vrijheid op straat 2
Wat ik onder deze vrijheid moet verstaan is niet eenduidig. Is dat de vrijheid die onze gekozen regering als overheid toestaat middels wetten en regels. Of de absolute vrijheid die je vaak verkondigd hoort, maar even vaak niet geaccepteert wordt door diezelfde verkondigers.
In de NRC van donderdag 28 april jl stond een artikel van Coen van Zwol met de titel 'Graffiti achter de tralies' waarin stond dat een graffiti-kunstenaar Revok, in LA tot een half jaar celstraf is veroordeeld. Quote:

In Rotterdam komt deze 'vrije' kunstvorm niet veel meer voor, behalve in opdracht. Toch zijn er die er een andere opvatting op na houden. Helaas kan ik dit voorbeeld niet waarderen. Na Koninginnedag stond op een muur aan de Pannekoekstraat deze tekst.  Is de artiest gefrustreerd, een puber? Waarom in het engels? Ik weet het niet. Revok heeft dat met de tijdelijke beperking van zijn vrijheid ondervonden.

Op 28 mei wordt om even voor 12 uur een nieuw beeld aan de Coolsingel onthuld. In opdracht van Sculpture International Rotterdam (SIR) ontwikkelden Michael Elmgreen & Ingar Dragset het werk It’s Never Too Late to Say Sorry (2011), dat bestaat uit een zorgvuldig vormgegeven, museale vitrinekast met daarin een gepolijste, roestvrijstalen megafoon op een granieten sokkel. Iedere dag verschijnt er een man bij de vitrine, opent het deurtje, pakt de megafoon er uit en schalt over de Coolsingel: “It’s never too late to say sorry”. Deze performance zal gedurende een jaar vanaf de opening iedere dag herhaald worden om klokslag 12 uur in de middag.

Moederdag
 Op moederdag wordt veel met rode hartjes gedaan.  Ik weet niet of dat de inspiratiebron is voor deze artiest(en), maar sinds enige tijd is in Rotterdam iemand actief met het plakken en spuiten van rode harten in de stad. Een foto daarvan heb ik al eens hier geplaatst onder de titel God is niet blij met ons Quote:

Aan haar borsten kunnen we zien dat zij al die verschillende nakomelingen, al die ver-schillende rassen, liefdevol heeft gezoogd. Door die laatste strofe op deze wijze te verbeelden krijgt het gedicht volgens Blaaker een universelere lading. 'Eén Rotterdam, zoveel soorten haar...' of 'Eén wereld, zoveel soorten...'. R. Dobru (1935-1983) is het pseudoniem van vakbondslid en activist Robin Ravales, die zich zowel binnen als buiten de poëzie verzet heeft tegen de sociaal-maatschappe-lijke problemen in zijn land en de koloniale overheersing van de Nederlandse staat. Vlak voor zijn dood heeft hij ook nog in de re-gering van Suriname gezeten als Minister van Cultuur, in welke hoedanigheid hij zich inzette voor de politieke en culturele een-wording van Suriname. Zijn poëzie kenmerkt zich door een sterke betrokkenheid bij het lot van de Surinamers en het lijden van hen die sociaal achter-gesteld waren. Als dichter verwoordde en voedde hij vanaf de jaren zestig het steeds sterker wordende nationalisme en verlangen naar onafhankelijkheid van zijn volk. Het gedicht 'Eén' is een van de bekendste voor-beelden van de behoefte om saamhorigheid te creëren in een tijd waarin de roep om vrijheid steeds luider wordt.
