Innsbruck, touristier than I expected

Last summer, while I stayed in Munich, I hopped over to Innsbruck (Austria). It was hard to believe that a town lost somewhere in the Alps would attract tourists from such remote places, as the US or Japan.
Of course this is justified. You have to search very much to find another town of this size with such beauty!

Great photos, Athenian! Innsbruck looks lovely, but way too crowded in the summer, especially on those narrower streets. It completely takes the fun away having to fight back the mobs in tourist areas like that.

I'm willing to bet at least half of the tourists there ARE Americans/Canadians and Japanese. Europeans know better than to visit the touristy cities in the summer.

Innsbruck is very touristy throughout the year. In fact winter is the real tourist season, especially the Christmas time. However, many come for the excellent sporting possibilities, hence you will have a lot more space - except for the Christkindl market areas
