MPIC earmarks P350 million for upgrade of Lourdes Hospital

MANILA, Philippines - Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC) has forged an agreement to manage and operate Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, budgeting at least P350 million in capital expenditures for the facilities upgrade of the Sta. Mesa-based hospital over the next five years.

In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange, MPIC executive director and head of the hospital group Augie Palisoc Jr. said the 230-bed Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital would be the fifth in the group’s growing healthcare portfolio of approximately 1,600 beds.

Under the agreement, East Manila Hospital Managers Corp. (EMHMC), a wholly-owned unit of MPIC, will oversee the hospital’s operations for a period of 20 years beginning Nov. 1, 2010 following the expected seamless transfer of management by the Missionary Sisters Servants of the Holy Spirit (SSpS) congregation.

Palisoc said this move represents “another step forward in our vision to establish a nationwide chain of quality hospitals in the Philippines.”

MPIC’s healthcare portfolio also includes Makati Medical Center, Cardinal Santos Medical Center, Davao Doctors Hospital and Riverside Medical Center in Bacolod.

Last year, the healthcare business contributed P174 million to MPIC’s total net income. The group is training its sights on other hospitals nationwide in its bid to build the biggest chain of healthcare institutions in the country with a bed capacity of at least 3,000.

Palisoc earlier said the group was looking at establishing a nationwide network of 10 hospitals and hit the P1-billion income mark in the near term.

i hear alot of comments that linalangaw daw.. i hope they recover quickly their investment

really nice hospital and the food outlets are outstanding! the Sy foundation wellness center is to be proud of

Maybe not.. There was a promo nga of 50% discount yata. That is the first time Ive heard of anything like it. Ive never heard of a hospital giving a discount for room and board before. Hehe.. Maybe its still too early. There are not too many residents yet in the area. Give it about 5 years if it can stay there long enough that is..

The GT-Metro Foundation, Inc. was registered with the SEC as a non-stock, non-profit corporation on October 7, 2009. The forming of the Foundation came about when Dr. George S.K. Ty, Metrobank Group Chairman, announced publicly his plan to build a 1,000 bed hospital named GT Medical Center, in Pres. Diosdado Macapagal Blvd in Pasay City. Being a very young organization, it hired its only staff only last May; however, six 6 Metrobank Foundation employees are currently seconded to GT-Metro Foundation. There are 9 (7 regular and 2 special) members of the Board of Trustees. With the vision of being “a socially responsible institution, recognized as an active advocate of health and wellness in the Philippines, and in Asia, leading the public and private sectors in promoting holistic and sustainable human development”, the Foundation aims to: a. To implement programs that would contribute to the delivery of quality health services to the least fortunate of society, especially those from the cities of Makati, Manila and Pasay; b. To implement programs that seek to improve health care delivery in the country. Among the programs that are lined up in 2010 are: Salamin Para sa Maliwanag ng Bukas, Share the Gift of Vision, Dona V. Tytana Memorial Lecture, Subsidy to Indigent Patients, Community Health, School Health, Conduct of institution-based Surgical and Medical Missions and Medical Research. Barely nine (9) months in operation, no revenue has been recorded. Funds needed for its program and general operating expenses are being advanced by Metrobank Foundation and Mrs. Mary Ty, wife of Dr. George S.K. Ty. Total budget approved by the Board for 2010 amounts to P10M.
