Maroc, photos

Some pictures from Morocco (Al-Maghrib, meaning "the West") taken in 1999 and 2000. I had to scan them so the resolution isn't the best...

Let's start with Marrakesh, major touristic centre.
La Koutoubia. One of the most harmonious mosque.

If i'm not wrong that's the Palace el-Badi.

Médersa Ben Youssef (a médersa is some kind of coranic university. That one dates from the end of the 16th century.

The Souk (in the Casbah)

Pavillion of La Ménara. You can see the mountains of the Haut Atlas behind. It was the gallant rendez-vous of the sultans. The legend tells that one of them used to throw the girl he spent the night with in the pool at dawn.

Jamaa-el-Fna square. Main square. Very touristic. Be carreful if you drink a fresh orange juice. Ask without water, if not you're ready for the turista! It's maybe too touristic now.

The Roses valley and the Casbah route, NE Ouarzazate.

(I think i took this one in Skoura.)

Our transport means. Good old Peugeot 404 with probably more than 1.000.000km. Mine was blocked at 500.000. Pic taken in Tinherir.

Gorges du Dadès. (sorry, i don't know how to say 'gorges' in English)

52 days for Tombouctou from Zagora. I didn't try.

Desert near the algerian border in M'Hamid. We slept there. That's why there's many footsteps.

Essaouira / As-Sawira. I liked it a lot. It used to be called Mogador.

Nice beach. But the water is a bit cold.

These pics were taken in 1999 ; I don't know why, that's the only pics i found. I was sure to have taken more, but i can't find them :

Casablanca / Ad-Dar-Al-Beida (White house).

Hassan II mosque. One of the biggest but they got problems with the sea which damages a lot the part along it.

Rabat / Ar-Ribat, the capital
The Casbah

Mohammed V mausoleum.

Hassan tower (44 m). Last thing that remains from a big mosque (you can see the colums, could held 40.000 persons).
