Thank you. More Curonian Spit:

We leave our bikes in Nida and take the bus back to north.

There we find Klaipèda's main tourist attraction. The splendid Martime Museum and Dolfinarium:

Back to the mainland.

Some nice but crowded beaches north of Klaipèda.

Pictures taken from our apartment.

There are no trains between Klaipéda and Kaunas, so we take the bus at the new Klaipéda-busstation.

The A1/E85 from Klaipéda via Kaunas to Vilnius:

And so our last city before we take our plane back is Kaunas.
Quote:
Kaunas is the second largest city in Lithuania and a former temporary capital. It is the seat of the Kaunas city municipality and of the Kaunas district municipality. It is also the capital of Kaunas County. Kaunas is located at the confluence of the two largest Lithuanian rivers, the Nemunas and the Neris, and near the Kaunas Reservoir, the largest body of water entirely in Lithuania.
It has a population of about 350.000 inhabitants.

No, lack of time. We passed the house by bike just before reaching Nida, but it was in the late afternoon and we wanted to climb the huge dunes on the Russian border before making the 50 km return by bus.

Now back to Kaunas:

IX Kauno fortas - Ninth Fort

Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

Quote:
The Ninth Fort is a stronghold in the northern part of Šilainiai elderate, Kaunas, Lithuania. It is a part of the Kaunas Fortress, which was constructed in the late 19th century. During the occupation of Kaunas and the rest of Lithuania by the Soviet Union, the fort was used as a prison and way-station for prisoners being transported to labour camps. After the occupation of Lithuania by Nazi Germany, the fort was used as a place of execution for Jews, captured Soviets, and others.

Another underrated site close to Kaunas is the Open-Air Museum of Lithuania at Rumšiškės, 13 km east of the city. It's hard to reach by public transport, we took one of the old and rare minibuses that passes Rumšiškės.
But it was worth the effort, cause the open-air museum was one of the most beautiful we've ever visited!

Rumšiškės countryside:

Time to go back home... So we take the train from Kaunas to Vilnius...

Kaunas Train Station:

This train will bring us back to the capital:

Nice and comfortabel train anyway!.

Back in Vilnius.

We have some time to admire the international trains.

This one goes to Mogilev, in Eastern Belarus.

I suppose this one makes a stop between the Russian enclave Kaliningrad and Saint-Petersburg.

This is the brand new Airport Shuttle. Distance to the airport is about 6 kilometres, so it's only a short ride.

Departure hall of Vilnius Airport.

The End!
