Such a shame about the Albany mall being hit by the tornado and tragically 1 man being killed at the old placemakers site.

Hy guys ,
greetings from one of the italian wineyards Region!!

I've just opened in the SSC international section (see signature) a thread about wineries, built following modern architecture but not only.

If you know some realisations in your beatiful region (and I'm sure there are), please post information about them in my thread: at the end we will have the worldwide picture of where to drink a good glas of wine and then, we can choose where to do our next trip!!

Thank you and enjoy your wine

Italians are in New Zealand since the beginning ... The first Italian to reach New Zealand shores was Antonio Ponto, who sailed on the Endeavour with Captain James Cook in 1769.
Immigrants who arrived up until the 1890s were mostly young single men. Some took up residence, but others often set sail again. One of the earliest settlers was Salvatore Cimino, a shipping trader from Capri who arrived about 1839. He was married twice, to New Zealand women, and had close ties with Māori, including Te Rauparaha.

Kiwirob is rude to everybody and considered a troll, just ignore him and others like him. It is great that you are so interested in NZ and at least you contribute to the forums

As Sydney says, there is a reason they have an 'ignore' function on SkyscraperCity. I swear by it

Is always a pleasure to contribute to the forum when I can.
P. S. Syd thanks for the warning about some forumers, I'll keep that in mind.

Hey Thomas so long as you either or all of the following gay, green or a lefty you'll fit into the rather narrow cross section of NZ that is represented on Kiwiscrapers.

The Base to get $200m expansion
ANDREA FOX
Last updated 05:00 02/02/2012

A $200 million expansion of Hamilton's retail showcase The Base and Te Awa will start this year, adding shops, offices and a medical campus to the city's northern gateway.

Landowner Tainui Group Holdings, the commercial development arm of the Tainui tribe, hopes foundation work for the 40,000-square-metre final stages will start this year, with the first of a series of buildings next year.

A car-parking building is also planned, chief executive Mike Pohio said.

Resource consent for developing the remainder of The Base was granted last year. The new development will be on 11 hectares of Tainui land still undeveloped between State Highway 1 and the main North Island railway line, north of the new Te Awa retail complex and Heathcotes.

The tribe owns the land up to Te Kowhai Road. The new stage will take TGH's investment in The Base to close to $500m, Mr Pohio said.

The medical campus, yet to be contracted to service providers, would feature an accident and emergency unit, specialist clinics, a pharmacy and "wellness" services, including a gym and a spa.

Given The Base's Tainui roots, TGH has a strong will to ensure the medical campus is well-visited by Tainui iwi, Mr Pohio said. The "barriers" to a Tainui person visiting a medical professional can be on several levels, including financial and cultural.

For this reason it is planned to have Maori-speaking medical personnel at the new campus. Through this initiative it is also hoped to increase the early diagnosis rate among Tainui iwi.

Mr Pohio would not discuss potential lessees for commercial reasons, but said TGH was looking for, and receiving inquiries from, potential tenants for the new shops, offices and medical facilities.

"There has been an increase in interest because they can now see the extent of the offering at The Base, including Te Awa and what it means. It's a case of seeing is believing. And when you consider the foot traffic, we are talking reality. We are in talks with a few [prospective tenants]."

There are currently 185 tenants at The Base. Mr Pohio said the count would eventually rise to 250 to 300, largely driven by further first floor retail in Te Awa "which is some time away". The Base has created 1600 jobs, half of which are fulltime and half part-time.
Ad Feedback

Mr Pohio said the employee tally could rise to between 2300 and 2500 when The Base is completed. "Broad numbers for foot traffic are around four million a year, with our highest on any one day through Te Awa being Boxing Day [2011] which exceeded 41,000."

Traffic management upgrades for The Base have begun in response to increasing vehicle demands, with a slip road under construction south of the main entrance to the complex, which will take cars into the area behind specialist grocer Farro. Traffic lights installation at SH1 and the main entrance is planned for this year, Mr Pohio said.

It's a very narrow cross section, anyone from the outside looking at Kiwiscrapers would assume (with a few exceptions) that all kiwis are either, gay, immigrants, greens, lefty or a mix of them all.

You forgot wankers from the Shore.
That pretty much completes the offering.

So back to shopping malls in New Zealand... Have you ever been to Te Awa/The Base Rob? I think you would be quite impressed by what the Natives have achieved down there.

Well Rob I guess you are here representing white, suburban, right wing, private school educated rich kids from the shore. The real kiwis that is

If anyone looking at this forum assumed that an enitre nation fitted into those categories, they would be as big an idiot as you are.

Been there, quite surprised they're making it bigger, I wouldn't have though there would be that big a need for more shopping. I bet the natives have got lots of smart non natives helping them invest their money, they should after nearly losing it all some years ago, bet the designers for Base were also not maori and would also guess most of the doctors in the new medical centre won't be maori either.

Dear KiwiRob "who watches from outside" Kiwiscrapers, I do not think that is small-mind, to judge all in what you indicate... Would rather put their hands in the hair because read the post-conflict between a user and another. Everyone has freedom of thought and expression. Then that one is gay or straight, left or right, green or concrete, white or black: is only private life. I do not allow myself to judge who you are and not what you say, I search only a constructive dialogue. Try it you (take it as advice, sincere).

P.S:If you think I said anything that has offended you, I beg your pardon even before you tell me.

Anyway better get back to talking about shopping malls as suggested by badbehaviour.
