Il y a aussi la gaufre à la chicorée, la gaufre à la ducasse et d'autres encore.
Mikky gloss over the 'gaufre fourrée' (stuffed waffle ?), he's right, our region is fond of all sorts of waffles, Belgium too.

You guys are trying to make waccamatt hungry! Time to find that box of chocolates!

What are the waffles stuffed with? I love waffles with pecans!

You see that we love interchanges and skyscrapers also in France but we haven't really this in our coutry contrarily at the United States, aside La Defense which seems limited in height.
You like waffles ! :bleh:
The waffle are stuffed with vergeoise, a sort of tenderness sugar extracted from the beet sugar sometimes added with rhum. Waffle with cassonade (soft brown sugar, cane sugar). 'Gaufre au Maroilles' with thin lamellas of cheese Maroilles, some one use vanilla, chocolate or apricot jelly. I prefer chesnut jam/jelly.
But the authentic 'gaufre fourrée du Nord' is stuffed with vergreoise.

They sound delicious. At street festivals and fairs here, they serve something called funnel cakes and elephant ears. They are fried dough covered with cinnamon and sugar (my favorite), chocolate, hot apple compote or strawberry compote. I have a stomach ache just thinking about it.

This is my latest creation - a light rail tramway (called a trolley here) for greater Columbia.

This is the original trolley in Columbia, disbanded in 1936 in favor of busses (yuck!).

Trolleys:  Bus:

Trolleys disapears in France during the 20th C. except in Lille, Marseille and Saint-Etienne. Today all the cities in France acquire trolleys. I think that's possible the come back of trolleys in Columbia.
Where is the university on the map ?
Two lines of Val would be profitable and some lines of trolley. You know which was the former lines ?

The green lines appear numerous but look at the scale.

The University is right in the center of the map, just north of where the neighborhood "Wales Garden" is written. The center of campus is only a few blocks from the state capital building. Waccamatt lives just north of downtown just below where the neighborhood "Eau Claire" is written.

The former lines ran along Main Street north from the state capital (state house) to the Eau Claire area, from downtown to the southwest to the Olympia neighborhood and to the east from downtown to the Five Points and Shandon areas. Columbia was much smaller in 1936 when the trolleys were replaced by busses. Metropolitan Columbia had a population of about 130,000 in 1936 and is now a little over 700,000.

I am amazed at how beautiful the VAL system is. We do not have mass transit in the US that is so nice. I wish I could convince the government to put all of the highway money into mass transit. Do you know how many miles VAL covers? Is it easy to travel around Lille solely by VAL without an auto?

I realized it is hard to see the neighborhoods on the map. I tend to over do things and put way too many trolley routes on the map (wishful thinking) I think this map will be easier to see.

At my advice, Columbia must tale back the former lines, adapt to the new place of interest, university and mall. One line can seduce and afterward others will come.
Full informations about the VAL system : http://www.siemens-ts.com/pagesUS/pr...utomatique.htm
In France, the cities of Lille, Paris-Orly, Toulouse and Rennes possess this system.
Number of kilometers in Lille here : http://www.siemens-ts.com/pagesUS/re...ions/Lille.htm
Total :44,9 km (~ 28 miles).

I would be delighted to see us take back the old lines. One ran 3 blocks from where I now live. I could take the trolley to work downtown!

I am most impressed with the VAL and with what I have read of Lille. My dad served on the railroad in France and Germany when he was in the army in WWII, he would have been most impressed with this system.

The cheese Dauphin come from Maroilles, named in the honor of Louis XIV's son. This cheese had a dolphin form before, rectangular today. Dauphin has the same past than the Maroilles but spiced with tarragon, pepper, parsley and cloves.

I am not familiar with cheese Dauphin. I will have to visit the local gourmet shop and try some. Off subject, but I see you have received some snow! I wish we had received more snow this winter, we only had a small bit in December.
