No-no you mess up nothing, but you miss one article : La.

La neige apporte beaucoup de bonheur (à ceux qui l'aime bien sûr).

Waccamatt is a snow buff and me I'm chilled like a snowman in the buff.

Professor Charpentier is a professor of humor! I always get my "La's and my "Le's" confused! The other day I mis-spoke "La Marseilleis" instead of "Le Marseilles". It is quite cold and windy here tonight and will get down to minus 4C tonight...brrrrr...not as cold as January, though, when it got down to -11C. My Palm Trees got badly burned during the cold snap and most of the fronds broke during the ice storm.

On the bright side I just made my 500th post!!!!!

Ma palme pauvre!

Since I can't post with very much confidence in French, I figure the least I can do is post temperatures correctly. I have always been a meteorology buff, so I have been very familiar with Celsius readings since I was a child. When I was growing up in the 70's they told us we would have to know the metric system before the year 2000 because the British system would be no more! Unfortunately we have still not made the switch, but all labeling is in both British measures and metric. Banks love signs with time and temperature here and they have both fahrenheit and celsius. I guess if we had switched, the Michael Moore film would have been called "Celsius 488.33!"

And the french title of the film 'Betty blue' is '37°2 le matin'.
François Truffaut's film : Fahrenheit 451. How much in Celsius ?
I believe that United States opted for the metric system. It's not easy ? I see still two systems in the scales of the american maps.

The law requires both metric and British scales...bottling, packaging, temperatures, but most Americans are still more familiar with gallons, quarts, fahrenheit and yards than they are centimeters, meters, kilometers and celsius. I learned the metric system in school, however, and it makes much more sense.

451F = 232.77C

Fahrenheit to Celsius formula: (F - 32)/1.8= celsius temperature
Celsius to Fahrenheit formula: (C x 1.8) + 32= fahrenheit temperature

Professor Charpentier, bonsois Professor Waccamatt

P.S. My grades were better in mathematics than in French.

STOP : Please do not flood this Lille thread with personal concerns. They may be very interesting but this thread has turned into a waccamatt / Charpentier thread.
Please create a thread in the Bar à vin or keep posting here but do speak about Lille, thank you

D'ailleurs je voulais parler de Liège qui sera bientôt à moins de deux heures de Lille. Le temps de parcours en train va encore se réduire entre Lille et l'Allemagne

They are 2 railstations in Lille, one for the regional lines named Gare Lille-Flandres and the other : Gare Lille-Europe for the TGV lines.
Here the new TGV station, by Calatrava in Liège (pinta estupenda) : http://www.euro-liege-tgv.be/sites/1..._CATEGORIE=318
Informations en français : http://www.lillemetropole.fr/page.phpThe photos ares in 'services' top and then select 'galerie', there is some photo, and 3 photos of the gare Lille-Europe in 'triangle des gares'.
Addresses in Lille, in English : http://easy-lille.com

Infos in english (page of map) here : http://www.railfaneurope.net/tgv/map.html
Carte du réseau TGV (en Français) : http://www.tgv.com/FR/apropos/reseau/carte.html

I understand that Lille is the historic capital of Flanders. Is the native language of Flanders still spoken and learned in school or is French exclusively spoken? I love how many rail lines there are from Lille and the VAL around the city. I wish rail travel was so easy in the U.S.! With all of the college students in Lille, is the nightlife good?

Ce thread est intitulé Lille, pas projets lillois. Je suis ch'timi et je fais ce que je veux chez moi.

Oui, Monsieur Charpentier! Le mots et apropos.

Lille was flemish, french, austrian, spanish and finally french. Take by Louis XIV who claims the Spanish Netherlands because of his marriage with Marie-Thérèse d'Espagne (in fact he wanted to conquier all the territories untill the Rhine). Flemish is spoken between Bergues near Dunkerque and Bailleul in departement of 'Nord'. Lille claims to be the capital of Flanders, perhaps because the architecture is flemish (a tad french influence in the buildings alignments : 'les rangs', It is 'Le style lillois'), and its origin is a Baudouin V's castel, the Count of Flanders. The name of Lille (pronounced ~ Leel) come from 'Insula' (Isle) its first name in 1066 at the time of Baudouin V, whence "L'Isle" and Lille, (I believe that the flemish name is Rijsel).
Its schield is simple : red with a great white fleur-de-lys in the center. Lille was embellish also by Louis XIV, great avenues, Porte de Paris, etc. and of course the 'Citadelle' by Vauban, greatest citadel in France, with 3 rows of fortifications and 5 bastions. Many 17th and 18th C. buildings. The 'Palais des Beaux Arts' was built at the end of 19th C. where are works from Flemish, Holland, French, Italian and Spanish Schools, also impressionists and modern art. The museum of modern art take place in Villeneuve-d'Ascq. The city hall was built in 1927, it have a 'beffroi' (belfry) hight of 104 m.

I believe that Texas and Florida had TGV projects. There is not direct railway between Charlotte and Columbia however Columbia is a railway and highways intersection like Lille. Then, Columbia-Charlotte in a jiffy ?

Lille has almost as many different ancestries as Waccamatt! I saw pictures of the city hall online; very, very impressive. I love modern art and impressionism so it seems there would be alot to see in Lille.

Charpentier is correct, the rail line does not go from Columbia to Charlotte, we can travel by rail to Raleigh, Richmond, Washington, Philadelphia and New York City to the North and to Savannah, Jacksonville and Miami to the South. Columbia is a (freight) railway hub and a highway hub, so it is a very easy hour and 15 minutes from Columbia to Charlotte by auto. At one time we were also a passenger railway hub, but alas, those days are gone (temporarily I hope). If the moderators will allow I will post pictures of our history of passenger rail.

Wow!!! Tres bien! Impressement!

Lille to Brussells in 38 minutes, Paris in 1 hour and London in 1 hr 40 minutes! The world at your doorstep in one afternoon. It would be so exciting to be so close to so many places.
