Bjarke Ingels Group has won the first prize in the invited design competition for a 47,000 m2 ski resort and recreational center in Levi.

That is very nice and unusual. Most ski resorts try to look like Alpine villages.

JKMM Architects has won design competition of three 12-storey apartment buildings which will be built to Äijälänranta,Jyväskylä. YIT will start construction of first tower in this year and it should be completed by 2014 Housing Fair,held in Jyväskylä.

12-storey hotel extension in Rovaniemi gets green light from the municipal board.

Rovaniemen City-hotellin toimitusjohtajalla Mikael Gröhnillä on suunnitelma rakentaa 12-kerroksinen hotelli nykyisen kiinteistön viereen.

Tontilla nyt sijaitsevan pienen betonisen kaupungin parkkihallin paikalle rakennettaisiin uusi korkea hotelli- ja asuinrakennus. Huipulla olisi mahdollisesti näköalaravintola ja kokoustiloja. Hotellihuoneita rakennukseen on tulossa 50-100 riippuen tulevista kaavamääräyksistä. Hotellihuoneiden lisäksi rakennukseen tulee 40-60 asuntoa, vuokrayksiöitä, jotka ovat matkailijavirran lisääntyessä helposti muutettavissa hotellihuoneiksi. Rakennuksen alimpaan kerrokseen sijoittuu kauppahalli juurevien kaupunkimiljöiden tapaan.
– Kauppahallikulttuuri lisää keskustan viehätystä ja sen vetovoimaa, Gröhn uskoo.
Pysäköintitilat rakennetaan maan alle.
Kyse ei ole kuitenkaan vain hotellilaajennuksesta, vaan kokonaan uudenlaisesta visiosta puhaltaa henkeä autioon ja tylsään keskustaan. Tehdä siitä elävä ja haluttava niin paikallisille asukkaille kuin turisteillekin. Visiossa ankea Pekankatu muuttuu kaupunkilaisten olohuoneeksi, bulevardiksi, jossa on kiva kävellä ja pyöräillä. Elämää tihkuvaksi torikaduksi kojuineen. Vihreäksi pikkuesplanadiksi lasiravintolaterasseineen ja esiintymislavoineen.

Gröhnin tavoitteena on päästä rakentamaan ensi kesänä ja saada laajennus valmiiksi joulusesonkiin 2013 tai kevääksi 2014. - Lapin Kansa

Current design doesn't look very promising,so I hope that final design looks better.

Btw,how difficult it is to build mid- or highrises in smaller Finnish towns? I'm asking,as here we've had few midrise proposals in small towns too and they've always faced very strong opposition.

Much easier than back in 2005. All major cities have high rise plans on paper, how many of them will materialize in the coming years is to be seen.


Construction of a 16-storey office in Kuopio begins in March

Technopolis Oyj aloittaa maaliskuussa Viestikadun viimeisen kohteen rakennuttamisen. Kolmivaiheisen urakan on saanut Skanska. Jyvän muotoisesta tornitalosta tulee 16-kerroksinen. Kerroksissa se on Kuopion ykkönen, mutta korkeudessa se häviää Microtowerille kolme metriä.
Hanke tuplaa Viestikadun nykyiset neliöt ja nostaa työntekijämäärän 2 000:een.
Hankkeen kokonaiskustannusarvio on noin 40 miljoonaa euroa. Kokonaisala on 25 000 neliötä.

Arkkitehtityöhuone Artto Palo Rossi Tikka Oy won design competition for Rovaniemi Centre Stadium / Rovaniemen Keskuskenttä upgrading. Their design foresees construction of new tribune and separately standing residential & commercial buildings. Rovaniemi town starts creating construction project based on this design.
Multi-purpose stadium itself was renovated few years ago.

International casino gets go-ahead in Vaalimaa, close to Russian border

The Board of Finland’s Slot Machine Association (RAY) resolved on Tuesday evening that its new casino, the second in Finland, would be located in the premises of a new shopping centre that is under planning in Vaalimaa, in the municipality of Virolahti, in the southeastern corner of the country.

The setting up of a new casino was made possible a year ago, when Finland’s gambling legislation was amended.

At its new casino, RAY will aim to attract mainly Russian customers.
The branch is strictly regulated even in Russia. Since 2009, casino operations have been allowed only in four special zones, which are located far away from major cities.
