I think plans for the original rendering were never released. Perhaps there was no real curvature but the north facade was distinclty divided in three parts with a central portion parallel to the park and the two on the sides at an angle with the central portion:

The result is that the new design is more boxy and with less of and edge in my opinion:

Crown is much better, but those balconies are meh. Still an improvement I think.

Oh SHIT, they turned it into a 30 Park Place clone? That blows.

I like this design much better. It seems less defined by glass and thus has a more natural texture. To me that is preferable for a structure that will be looming over the park. It is also very New York. I love the ambiance of NYC largely because it isn't a sterile collection of glass blocks.

It looks more like 520 Park...

I count 16 actual floors. Does that mean they're on the 24th "story"?

Coming along nicely. I just don't understand that cantilever bit being built out on the right hand side of the building..?

It's very simple - more floorspace for the super expensive floors with Central Park views.

Maybe it's just an "in your face" to Central Park Tower.

Agreed, the new design is not bad, but not new either.

It would look fine if they lost those godawful balconies... turned something elegant and classy into a bit of an eyesore. Please it's not too late to re-think and chuck them.

For those complaining about the similarities to 30 Park Place and 520 Park Avenue, it is the same architect, Robert Stern. He also did 15 Central Park South and the courthouse building in Brooklyn to huge fanfare, hence the similar design across all of them. Why would the pony have to learn new tricks if it is already winning the awards?

It's about the same height as 1790 Broadway, which is 285 feet. Maybe it's even slightly taller.

I thought this one was revised higher to just over 1000 feet.
