Will these fake windows be randomly lit at night?

My guess is that the "windows" have a flat LED light panel behind the glass, similar to the setup on the top mechanical floors of 432 Park. Otherwise, it would look too weird at night, with a long dark strip running the whole height of the tower. And as long as there's a power source, such a system shouldn't be that hard to maintain/replace using a window washing unit.

If that is the case, I hope that they sync each row of window lights to the lights in the apartments on their floor rather than at random. If the LEDs turn on when a resident flips on their adjacent living room lights, say, that would really help sell the illusion.

[QUOTE=Architecture lover;131913232]Most of my posts get deleted, but this one is still around, amusing. I almost forgot why I didn't took part of the discussions on SSC for a long time. Also it seems I am the only one who thinks that New York deserves better than this. But what do I know, I don't have a clue.

Lol!..you are not the only one!...
It's a fact there are many morons(like that disgusting pit bull from East LA) in NY's forums.

I'm happy that it has reached a height at which more people are posting photos. Plus, springtime in New York... lovely.

Yeah...no. Doesn't even remotely look cheap...

Finally some official renders of the new design, from Vornado:

Is that terrace area on the left side part of separate apartments, or part of a common area? The central portion of the building at that height shows very tall widows.

I'm weirdly not as bothered by the single setback on the Eastern side, but maybe I've just metabolized how the envelopes of 220 CPS and Nordstrom are dependent on each other.

I'm pretty sure the only reason for the asymmetry is the agreement with Extell when they released the final piece of the site to Vornado, where they mandated 220 to be pushed as far to the West as possible. From dead on, Nordstrom is still going to be peeking out from behind 220 a bit...

...and for the sake of Nordstrom's uber-pricey units, every extra foot of unimpeded Park views is critical. Of course knowing why something is the way it is and liking it are two different things. In this case, I just don't think it's that bad.

I haven't heard anything about that kind of common space -- and really, many of the buyers here won't be living in the building full time, so that kind of amenity might just go to waste. If in fact that setback was part of the Extell-mandated envelope, I would bet Vornado is making the best of it by turning it into a one-of-a-kind terrace for an ultra-expensive unit. Honestly, I have a hard time imagining spending time on the highest balconies, but that one about 500 ft. up is probably not too breezy, and will have a unique combo of Park and City views.

Did Vornado take down the site for 220 CPS already? It makes me wonder if these aren't really final renderings. I certainly hope they're not. It looks a bit too post modern for me. A little too Frank Williams.

Linking to the landing page is broken for whatever reason, but the site is definitely still up. Go to vno.com and navigate to development > residential and then you'll find it. Between the site being live, and what we've seen constructed so far, I think this is going to be pretty darned close to what we're going to get, for better or worse.

You're on the money with the Frank Williams comp -- this definitely feels like it could be by the same architect as the Trump Palace, although I gather I may have a higher opinion of that building than you. It's definitely PoMo, but the materials are good and if the crown is well executed, I think it will be a real looker once complete. I certainly like it more than 30 Park Place.

The park side will undoubtedly be the better looking side.

The new design for the top portion of this building is 100x better than the old top design.

The sign at the construction site lists 225 West 58th Street as the name of the project.

Does anyone have the PW1A document for this tower that shows "occupancy/use" by floor?
