They lost the cement grey crown? My god, this tower just went from "meh, pretty cool" to absolutely gorgeous. With the new design, it will be a great addition to the Midtown skyline.

Usually it's easy to tell what architect or building Stern is referencing in his traditional buildings, what's Stern referencing in the tower and crown design? 10 Gracie Square again?

The villa portion looks like Carpenter's 825 5th ave., minus the sloped tile roof.

Looks like we have our answer about that setback -- it's going to be a private outdoor terrace for the 50th/51st floor duplex (the floorplan of which I am absolutely drooling over, by the way.)

That's a photo of the construction progress at Central Park tower and mostly 220 central park, from the 51st floor of the tallest hotel in America. (The residence inn Broadway). The crane atop 220 Central Park is about the height of the hotel room window which was around 600' tall.

I agree, looks great, only the obvious seams are a little repulsive.

I believe the obvious seams are going to be filled and they will blend in with the seams between the individual blocks.

That seems like the right thing to do.

The form of the building might be a let down from the earlier renderings, but the material elevates it well beyond expectations. Almost 1000 feet of high quality limestone rising above Central Park will look incredible.

The Real Deal's page on this project has a (slightly censored) version of the official Offering Plan for this development. Interesting read if you care about the annual charges for the wine cellars, but more interesting for this forum since it also includes 53 floor plans, a lot of which haven't been published elsewhere.

I'm still under 10 posts so I can't share the link but, y'know - google it.

Thank's strath for the tip, what a wonderful find!

Here's the link for the lazy ones : http://therealdeal.com/wp-content/up...ark-South1.pdf.

Floor plans start at page 65 of 118.
The sizes of the apartments span from 388 sqft (36 m²) to 11,090 sqft (1,030 m²).

Those look like expansion joints to prevent cracking when the surface expands due to heating from the sun, humidity, and warm weather.

Both solid and veneer masonry construction can be done without open thermal expansion joints. My guess is that the joints will be pointed with a mortar matching that seen in the preassembled panels.
