Auckland City Rail Link facing two-year delay
Tuesday, December 09, 2014

AUCKLAND Council's Governing Body has voted to defer the start of work on the $NZ 2.4bn ($US 1.89bn) City Rail Link (CRL), a 3.5km underground extension of the existing suburban line beneath the city centre until 2018-19, two years later than previously planned

Auckland mayor Mr Len Brown told the governing board meeting that a 2015-16 start for the project was considered "too much of a stretch by the auditor-general," Ms Lyn Provost. The council had assumed that the government would begin funding for the main works of the project in 2015, when it committed to a 2020 start date for construction, although Brown hopes to start work earlier.

"The auditor-general is looking for greater clarity and more reasonableness around the timing in bringing the government to the table and getting their assurance around their commitment to funding," Brown says. "I am confident we can come to an agreement in the next 12-18 months and negotiate an earlier start date."

Auckland suburban services go all-electric
Monday, May 18, 2015

AUCKLAND Transport celebrated a milestone in the $NZ 1.6bn ($US 1.2bn) modernisation of the city's suburban rail network on May 16, when electric services operated on all lines for the first time

CAF AM class EMUs are now operating all weekend services on the Southern Line Papakura and the Western Line Swanson. The Swanson line is the final section of the network to be electrified, although a connecting diesel service will continue to operate between Pukekohe and Papakura to the south of Auckland. Trains run every half hour with an hourly connecting service on the Pukekohe line

I believe they still run the diesels on all lines until all units are up and running and all drivers are trained, though according to Auckland Transport Blog (www.transportblog.co.nz) unless I am out of date with the info, though.

Will be in Auckland in December, so looking forward to trying these out! Such a big difference to the old pieces of nonsense running on the network.

You're probably right. Both drivers and trains need training and adaptation.

Is there an overbridge? I can't see one in the renders, or don't they expect passangers to transfer from one platform to the other?

Construction begins on Auckland City Rail Link
Monday, December 21, 2015

PRELIMINARY construction was officially launched on Auckland's $NZ 2.5bn ($US 1.7bn) City Rail Link (CRL) on December 21, when around 80 people attended a Manawhenua dawn blessing of the initial worksite at the intersection of Victoria Street and Albert Street in the city centre

The 3.4km CRL will extend Auckland's commuter rail network beyond the current terminus at Britomart to connect with the western line at a triangular junction near Eden Terrace. New underground stations will be constructed at Aotea Square and Karangahape Road, while the existing Mount Eden station will be rebuilt
