Monolith Expo.02, Murten, Switzerland (2002)

"Time is running out"

And today it no longer stands.

In my opinion, an even cooler "building" at the 2002 Swiss National Expo was the Blur Building, by Diller & Scofidio. It was made up of a platform elevated above water, surrounded by a metal latticework that sprayed tiny droplets of water to form an artificial cloud.

Any reason why the Monolith was removed? It looked perfect in its surroundings.

It was a temporary structure so I don't think there was any interior fit-out.

It was possible to go inside, where there was a panorama of the Battle of Morat (panorama), and maybe some other stuff, but I was way too young to remember.

A few more pictures.

This one just needs a bunch of neon, Japanese lanterns, and a dark moody sunset to look like something out of a cyberpunk novel.

Niterói Contemporary Art Museum, Rio de Janiero, Brazil (1996)
The setting makes just as much an impact as the architecture

Valle de los Caídos, Madrid, Spain (1959)

An underground basilica built by General Franco. I have been here, it's one of the most spectacular buildings I've ever seen.
It is grand in design but doesn't overwhelm you with too much detailing. A perfect balance of less and more.

The top of the dome is underneath the 150m cross
