Universidad Francisco Marroquín, Guatemala City (1971)

This is not necessarily amazing architecture, but I really love how the buildings blend so well with all the environment and nature around. This university was built in one of the many ravines in the middle of Guatemala City.

Is that for real or is it a rendering?

...the building and concept is great, but that 'base' at ground level is just horrible!

I think they intended for it to look like the 'soil' anchoring the trees.

Arab World Institute, Paris (Jean Nouvel - 1987)

Wikipedia:

Quote:
In contrast to the curved surface on the river side, the southwest façade is an uncompromisingly rectangular glass-clad curtain wall. It faces a large square public space that opens toward the Île de la Cité and Notre Dame. Visible behind the glass wall, a metallic screen unfolds with moving geometric motifs. The motifs are actually 240 photo-sensitive motor-controlled apertures, or shutters, which act as a sophisticated brise soleil that automatically opens and closes to control the amount of light and heat entering the building from the sun. The mechanism creates interior spaces with filtered light — an effect often used in Islamic architecture with its climate-oriented strategies.
TBH I'm pretty sure the mechanism is broken now but it still looks pretty nice.

Some of the buildings of Espaces Abraxas and Arenes de Picasso, Noisy-le-Grand, near Paris. Architects: Ricardo Bofill and Manuel Nunez-Yanowsky

F*cking love this. Very much like those 70s utopian concepts. They remind me of A Clockwork Orange, if anyone has seen the movie. I'll also post some of this on the most imposing thread.
