That is a surprise - Toronto Star article:
Stage Version of Aladdin Will Have World Premiere in Toronto
Published on Tuesday January 22, 2013
By Richard Ouzounian
Theatre Critic

A musical stage version of the beloved animated film Aladdin will have its world premiere at Toronto’s Ed Mirvish Theatre, immediately prior to its Broadway engagement.

The production will debut Nov. 13 as part of the 2013-14 Mirvish subscription season, according to Thomas Schumacher, producer and president of Disney Theatrical Productions, who broke the news to the Star in an exclusive interview.

Toronto has been no stranger to Disney musicals before, including record-breaking runs of The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast, but Aladdin will be the first one to begin here...

Spur Festival Soon to Launch in Toronto

A new festival about art, politics, and the economy aims to inspire action.

By Chris Riddell
Photo by Ian Muttoo, from the Torontoist Flickr pool.

The Spur Festival, a fledgling arts and ideas celebration, hopes to get people rallying behind the issues. “We didn’t want to just have a festival for festivals’ sake,” says Helen Walsh, one of the co-founders. “We wanted to do something that would spur people into action, and spur thought into action.”

Tickets for The Stop's Night Market will go on sale May 22 for June 18 and 19, last year they sold out in about 35 hours. http://nightmarket.thestop.org/ - View the Vibe article:
THE STOP’S NIGHT MARKET 2013
POSTED BY JASON ON APR 10, 2013 IN EVENTS

The Stop’s Night Market is expanding to two days of feasting and folly in 2013 in the Honest Ed’s laneway. Taking place on June 18th and 19th, 2013, The Stop’s Night Market is inspired by night markets all over the world, where great, affordable food and newfangled art foster positive vibes. On June 20, 2012, The Stop transformed Honest Ed’s laneway into a bustling night market, teeming with food vendors and chock-full of merriment, raising $56,000 towards The Stop Community Food Centre, according to their Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-S...24862447626515

Video from last year's event: http://vimeo.com/44805660

This year, they hope to dwarf that number. The Stop Community Food Centre is a Toronto organization that aims to increase access to food in communities across the city, while maintaining dignity and challenging the common barriers that perpetuate inequality amongst our citizens. Tickets for this all you can eat, all you can drink extravaganza are $50, with all proceeds going directly towards The Stop Community Food Centre.

What: The Stop’s Night Market
Where: Honest Ed’s laneway and parking lot (Corner of Bathurst and Bloor)
When: Tuesday, June 18th and Wednesday, June 19th
Tickets: $50 (all you can eat and drink). On sale May 22 at noon (check Twitter and Facebook for up to date info)

I like the concept of night markets but tickets are $50 per head? That is a tad steep to say the least.

It does say "all you can eat and drink"...assuming that means open bar, that's not a bad deal at all.

Still though, it'd be nice to have some regular (i.e. weekly/monthly/whatever), non-ticketed night markets.

That is pretty decent but I usually cannot stuff my face with tons of food and drinks in outdoor settings like this. Would much rather pay like a $2 entrance fee and pay separately for everything else purchased inside.

Me too. My experience in the past has been long lineups and minuscule Dixie Cups with a tablespoonful of beer in each, or tiny food samples at the end of a half hour wait.
I'd rather pay for a pint and a small meal independently, and don't feel I should have to pay any "entry" fee to a food/beer festival that is selling goods.

If you drink. People who don't drink aren't going to go @ $50. Even people who do drink often only want 1. This is tailored to the 'habitual' drinker, I suspect. I stay away from buffets for the same reason. I can barely finish regular servings of food. At buffets, I end up eating half the food or less that other patrons eat but pay the same price.
