[Valdivia, Region de Los Rios] Southern Chile, at it's best

Hi everybody, my name is Pablo and I'm a bit of an amatur photographer.

Today, I wanted to share some of the pics I've taken in and around Valdivia, my former hometown in the Región de Los Rios area in Southern Chile. I'll put some captions at the bottom of each pic, explaining some stuff about the city, the time I took the pic and any other relevant info. So, let's get started!

1.- A view from the "Costanera Cultural", nearby the Prochelle Park in Teja Island. Photo taken in December 2008 when the Casino was under construction

2.- ASENAV (Astilleros y Servicios Navales S.A) Shipyards alongside Calle-Calle River. ASENAV is a is a Chilean ship building company, based in Santiago with their main shipyards located in southern Chile in the middle of the city of Valdivia, some 15 km from the Bay of Corral at the Pacific coast. The company was established in 1973 by the German immigrant Eberhard Kossmann [Cite from Wikipedia]

3.- Pedro de Valdivia Bridge. Built in 1954 as a way to connect Teja Island with the rest of the city. It managed to resist the effects of the 1960 Earthquake after being hit the "Riñihuazo", a flooding

4.- Libertad Street. Originally called "Calle de los Abastos". It's name was changed in honor of Lord Thomas Alexander Cochrane, an Englishman which helped the Chilean patriots during the Independence War against Spain.

5.- A view from the Costanera in a somewhat cold day. Pedro de Valdivia Bridge on the back. Valdivia is also know as "Valdilluvia" (a mix between the name of the city and the spanish word for rain. Lluvia = rain), because of its particulare climate during the Autumm and Winter season.

6.- The CECS building, nearby Paseo Libertad. CECS ( Centro de Estudios Científicos) is a non-profit private corporation dedicated to research and development on different areas of science. Their website: CECS

7.- Valdivia Train Station. Now in a state of complete disrepair, after official train services stopped around mid 1990's.

8.- And the last one of this post. A view of the Costanera / Arturo Prat Avenue with the "Camino de Luna Floating Restaurant". As a famous song says, Valdivia is the city where the Moon dives on the rivers.

Did you liked the photos? Want me to post more pics about Valdivia or another chilean city? Don't be shy and tell me what do you think!

It's also great to be able to know how to take photos that other people can appreciate. This feeling is often hard to describe.
