Since the Income Tax office structure is bound to demolish during Kochi Metro works expansion, with the station likely to come near to it, the location will have full scale advantage... I hope, very soon more and more top hotels would be able to come, because of one move....

They themselves have planned mega expansions.... Surely its going to rock!!!!

ALL THE BEST FERN!!!! Welcome to Kochi!!!
if they had acquired nearby lands then it will be better , else the surroundings disappoints... Rate seems pretty high , Fern club charging 11000 per day...

It makes little difference, as brand franchisees operate directly, with staff and other facilities trained and tuned as per brand standards.... Its not Starwood that manages Le-Meridien Kochi, rather Galfar company itself, with staff trained as per Starwood standards.... Same in case of Ramada, which is being operated by Synite group......

I hope for seeing a repute brand here, though its a congested area......

A sea front remnant of a bygone era
Quote:

The Old Lighthouse Bristow Hotel in Fort Kochi

The architect of Kochi port - Sir Robert Bristow rightly deserved to stay in the scenic vantage point, from where he could see ships sail in and out of the port.

What is now the Old Lighthouse Bristow Hotel in Fort Kochi was the official residence of Sir Bristow, considered to be the port's founding father. From here, he could view the expansive sea, while enjoying the cool breeze all through. Even after the major renovation work, the sea view is the most captivating aspect of the building, with huge trees adding to the property's charm.

The calm, picturesque locale would definitely have inspired Sir Bristow to do some serious brainstorming about the port.

The main building dates back to 1929 and was named Beach Bungalow. It still has the original lighthouse mast. Sir Bristow is said to have stayed here till his return to Britain in 1941. The book ‘Cochin Saga' by Sir Bristow speaks of his daily routine in the house and also the social life in Kochi.

Following this, the house was occupied by the Deputy Conservator of the port and later on by marine pilots, said a senior port official. With maintenance costs skyrocketing, the building was handed over to an entrepreneur on a 30-year lease.

Though renovated a couple of years ago and converted into a heritage hotel, the structure has residues of the colonial era.

A huge mango tree greets visitors to the structure which now has white painted walls and windows, in sync with the colours of most buildings nearby in the Fort Kochi heritage zone. It was meek yellow till it was renovated.

Located just next to INS Dronacharya – the Navy's missile and gunnery school, the building offers a fabulous view of the sea and the Fort Kochi mini-beach.

Most revellers now throng the mini beach since the sea has intruded into the once-famous main beach, almost devouring it in full.

People can be seen sitting on the seawall too. The LNG terminal on Puthuvype Island has somewhat ruined the aesthetics across the waters. Still, one can view the sunset in its glory, while seated beneath the trees. Bristow's Bistro is an outdoor dining area that offers a fabulous view of the sea and the horizon.

The property has over a dozen trees that date back to the British era. It's got a simple, well-maintained garden and a swimming pool. A good lot of wood has been retained/used while renovating the structure.

The rooms have wooden floors. Guests can check around the heritage town in bicycles.

The building has been elegantly done up. A couple of flashy shades used to highlight a few walls looks too ‘modern' though. The heritage property retains its looks even during night.

Marriott International (NYSE:MAR) announced today that it expects to exponentially expand its portfolio from the current 11 to 100 hotels in India within the next five years across seven leading brands. In addition to the introduction of its Ritz-Carlton brand, Marriott growth plans will include the debut of its moderate-tier Fairfield by Marriott brand.
Announced today were recently signed management agreements for seven new hotels that will nearly quadruple Marriott’s presence in India in the next three years. When all signed hotels are opened and added to the company’s portfolio of 11 operating properties and 23 previously announced hotels now under construction, the Marriott portfolio in India will total 41 hotels by 2013. Through this expansion, the company also plans to create more than 8,000 new jobs in India over the next three years, ranging from entry-level to managerial.
“We’re excited to join with our local hotel development partners in contributing to India’s future growth and unlimited business potential,” said Arne Sorenson, president and chief operating officer of Marriott International. “India has the second largest hotel development pipeline in Asia and is expected to double the number of branded hotel rooms over the next three years to approximately 120,000 rooms. We’re thrilled that about10 percent of those new rooms are slated to carry a Marriott International brand flag and that we’ll be able to provide thousands of people real career opportunity in an environment where their ideas and talents can flourish.”
The seven agreements announced today are for five moderate-priced Courtyard properties, an upscale Marriott hotel and a life-style Renaissance property:

107-room Courtyard by Marriott Kochi/Cochin International Airport. It is owned by Lulu Flight Kitchen Private Ltd. and is planned to open in 2012.

101-room Courtyard by Marriott Bhopal. It is owned by DB Malls Private Ltd. and is planned to open in second quarter 2011.

160-room Courtyard by Marriott Chembur. It is owned by Acron Hotels Private Ltd. The hotel’s first phase is scheduled to open in 2013 with an additional 76 rooms expected to be added later.

150-room Courtyard by Marriott Nashik. Owned by Wasan Hotels Private Ltd.; the hotel is expected to open in 2013.

200-room Courtyard by Marriott Hyderabad Hitec City. It is owned by Future InfraIndia Private Ltd. and is scheduled to open in 2013.

365-room Jaipur Marriott Hotel. It is owned by Serveall Land Developers Private Ltd. and is expected to open in 2011.

150-room Renaissance Raipur Hotel, opening in 2013. It is owned by Krish Hotels Private Ltd
Kochi's first Marriot will be a 107 room hotel and will open this year itself..

Well, again another news of investment from UAE to Kochi.

Abu Dhabi based Millennium Group, which owns a chain of supermarkets, hospitality and catering business in UAE, will be opening 2 four star business hotels in Kochi.

The first one will be ready by Oct 2012, while the second one will be opening by end of 2013

I couldn't identify the location, but heard, its in the city center itself, while the second one is in Kakkanad near Infopark.

The first one will have 82 luxury rooms, while the second one will have 96 room facility.....

The group is planning to start a full fledged catering unit in its property near Kakkanad. The company is planning to start its business in a big way in Kochi with diversified interests. They have a full fledged office in Royal Towers in MG Road Kochi. Recruitment for hotel and catering unit will be starting soon....

Well, it appear so strange, how come we again miss such crucial information, a 4 star hotel all set open, not yet noticed till now? If anyone knows about it, pls share here.....

But apartments projects cannot be easily converted into hotels, unless its serviced apartments......Perhaps, might be at initial stages, it could be taken so....... But still, we are totally clueless about such investments here and there......

It took 2 years for us, even to identify the Taj Hotel project in Kakkanad..,,,

Anyway good to see lot of investments are flowing in from UAE, instead of remittances alone.....

Banyan Tree Kerala to open Dec 2012
Quote:
BANYAN Tree Hotels & Resorts is scheduled to open its inaugural resort in India, Banyan Tree Kerala on December 1, 2012.

Located in Nedithuruthu, midway between Kochi and Alleppey in the southern state of Kerala, the resort will offer 59 villas and one houseboat for a maximum of four guests. All villas will feature two private pools – one lap pool and one regular – in addition to a common outdoor swimming pool.

The resort will also feature four meeting rooms, two F&B outlets, a kids’ club, a gym, and a spa with six treatment rooms.

Manas Sinha, assistant director Key Accounts, Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts said: “Our focus (for Banyan Tree Kerala) will be on the domestic luxury market. We are adopting a different business plan from what we practice elsewhere.”

Manoj Saraf, managing director, Gainwell Travel & Leisure Kolkata said: “Banyan Tree opening in India is very welcome, as we now have an option to send our high-end clients to a resort within the country. This will be handy for last minute decision-making by clients, and we will not have to bother about visas as in the case of overseas destinations.”

Meanwhile, in order to boost brand recognition in the domestic market, Banyan Tree has organised a series of one-on-one meetings between high-end local tour operators and marketing representatives from its resorts in Asia, starting with one such meet in Kolkata on March 20.

A plot of land in Goa has also just been acquired for the group’s second India property, which will be a 50- to 65-key resort, scheduled to open in fourth quarter 2014.

Banyan Tree will open four resorts worldwide this year, including two in China and one in Vietnam, while 2013 will see the launch of one Angsana in Vietnam and one Banyan Tree each in China and the Philippines.

Guys,

I just know came to know the Great India Tours Company's parent holding group ATE, now has entered into Hospitality sector with a bang. I knew they have a hotel called The Capital in Trivandrum. But to my suprise, I just know only came to know, they have 2 Hotels in Kochi too, under the same brand name.

The Capital in MG Road and The Capital at Fort Kochi.

Don't know under which star classification it would be... The rates appears to be 3 star deluxe for both...
