Well the thing is.I don't know wich i rated and wich i didn't.So can't you make a option so that you can see wich towers you rated and wich towers you did not yet rated?

Is it just my imagination(or subjective opinion), or are the 'scrapers in this list, on the whole, not as impressive as those on the top 100 list? I've seen some fairly nice buildings, but nothing has really caught my eye...And I don't think it's just height, either...

Comments, anyone?

I think you are partially correct, but then again I think its mainly because the buildings in the top100 (particularly the top50) were designed as iconic landmarks for their cities, and may have been designed to really go all the way and be larger than life. It may also because you have an affinity for art deco?

The scrapers in this section are decent nevertheless, and some are pretty good, like Fountain Place in Dallas. Its just that they are underrated and never have been given the publicity, hence they feature less in the imaginations of people.

Or maybe its just that the Ryugyong is one of the stars of the top100?

Anyway I enjoy reading your analyses of scrapers, so keep it up and dont discriminate!

Hi RafflesCity, and thanks for the good words!

You've got a point, I think, about iconic landmarks - if you're designing a 'scraper that's going to be surrounded by towers that are taller/grander, whatever, it might seem futile to try for icon status. And publicity is also very important.

Plus which, there's also the bottom line - "form follows finance," as Carol Willis would say. And this might be even more prevalent in the absence of really determined, visionary clients, like walter Chrysler, for instance - the sort who's determined to spare no expense to see a dream take shape in stone, steel, and glass...

I also admit my prejudice towards Art Deco - but on the other hand, I've not seen anything yet that's caught my eye like the Bank of China, Lever House, or 1 & 2 Liberty Place in Philadelphia...Maybe I'm a bit spoiled after all those great towers on the first list ...

Yea, I've noticed too that the building's aren't as great as the Top 100. I think the Top 300 list has better buildings as well.

Could someone please add the Al Fattan Marine Towers in Dubai? They're 245m each and were completed (ie, handed over, not just completion of exterior) a few days ago.

Here's the thread in the UAE section:

Highrises are going up so fast these days that by the time a list has been compiled, it's probably already outdated. I suspect most of the buildings in the current list of 101-200 highrises actually belong in the 201-300 or 301-400 category now.

Towers are beautiful, but very shortly, will be newer, more beautiful and bigger. As far as fear what will be happening, when it is everything will end to build.

I am greeting.
