Also the fact that Flickr is blocked for something like 1/4 of global internet users doesn't add to its image as a truly global and reliable sharing site.

They will stay visible and won't be subjected to bandwidth limitation as is the case with Photobucket. However, you won't have access to some of them in your Flickr page. You are restricted to view only 200 images once your Pro account expires.

I guess it's ok then. Basically, all I want is that my existing threads and photos would stay visible and would not just disappear.

I just put hotlinks for my Picasa online pictures, never had problems (except it might take up to 30min for recently uploaded pictures to actually show up in a photo thread).

In some countries it's blocked because of the adult content. And believe me, there's enough of that on flickr! But I read there are ways to get arround the block. I know it's blocked in the UAE, but I have a contact there and he is able to upload new photos. Is it still blocked in China? I have a flagcounter on my profile page and I had some visitors from there.

Some sources say that only the farm1.static.flickr.com, farm2.static.flickr.com are blocked which means you'll be able to use the fickr.com website but won't see the photos which are hosted on farmx.static servers. Of course it's quite easy to overcome the firewall but most people simply wouldn't bother. Hence I better look for a hosting which isn't blocked or blocked in as few countries as possible. Imgur seems like a good option. Especially since it's free.

Imgur might have some issues aswell (I've seen 'image deleted by Imgur' signs on few forums,so they might be following the path of larger hosts),but in general it's good option right now. I'm not sure why people put up with this Flickr crap. They've disabled photo links twice and there's no telling that they would not do that again. Hell,I would have ditched Flickr at first trouble.

I personally use Tinypic & Photobucket (they are basically same thing, only Photobucket markets Tinypic as 'free photo hosting') I've had trouble with Tinypic aswell,as in last year they tried to shut down uploading from international locations and only allowing uploads from US & few other locations. Thankfully they were forced to change they minds by community after just 24h's. I've also used Imageshack, but they have appalling service and their servers tend to displace or delete random images. Even their tech-support has acknowledged problems but said that they are unable to fix them.

My point is that there isn't any perfect photo hosting server and the difference (especially on service quality) between free & paid hosting is almost non-existent.

Top ways for storing your pics on internetz is smth like that:
  • your own server space (can be bit expensive)
  • Imgur
  • small local photo hosts (it's surprising how many places provide photo hosting)
  • Tinypic
  • paid Photobucket
  • free Photobucket (as long as you don't exceed bandwidth limit)
  • ...
  • ...
  • Flickr
  • ...
  • ...
  • Imageshack (sry,but it's just crap)

Haven't used it,so can't really comment. Maybe someone using it can give their opinions about it?

Anyway,Picasaweb seems to be rarely used...well,atleast here,on SSC. One thing I've noticed about it though - after some time Picasaweb hosted photos disappear from posts made on SSC. I'm not sure if they are just deleted by their owners or Picasaweb uses shifting image links instead of permanent ones (some sites use such way to cut down bandwidth & photo hijacking)

Because as this thread is for problems about flickr, so:
From this morning almost all recent flickr photos i posted are unvisible (even my own). In the beginning i thought that is the problem is general, but seems only me have this problem. Maybe its temporary issue of my server, i dont know but after some efforts i did, still nothing:

Probably you can see the photo, so here is the proof (i used photobucket):

I can see the image of a road with trees and a glass tower in the back. Might be a local DNS issue on flickr's end.
