Spring is in the Air

These photos were taken yesterday at the annual Grand DUCK race (organised by Durham University Charities Kommittee). This set starts with some images of the Durham Students Union building which is a really unique Brutalist structure designed by Ove Arup (who also had a hand in designing the Sydney Opera House). Although most people hate it for being a concrete lump, I love how it sits in the landscape and almost bows to the river and the cathedral:

















I love this restaurant for how it hangs over the river . .

Yeah the ducks were a bit dirty! The winner won £1000 though!

Just came across this site - fantastic photos of Durham. It's been a long time since I was there, I think the town centre has improved from the photos you posted but of course the great Cathedral never changes, built for the ages and one of the World's most important buildings. Must make another visit soon.
