But.. why is it so ugly? The ones on the renders look so much nicer.

Vamos torcer, vamos cobrar.

I was just in Rio and took these pictures! It's exciting to see work being done. I wish I had the opportunity to ride the original tramway.

I just found out how to add pictures from flickr since they revamped their site.

You can see the original station here with the small loop. There is just a shallow gravel trench where the track used to be.
The grounds were still being maintained by gardeners.

The famous bridge is being sanded to its original white!

Here you can see the bridge from the top with the iconic Cathedral, or Catedral Metropolitana.

Totally relaying of tracks, reminds me Kolkata, my city, where some years before, safe track relaying started, almost completed, except route 22, where currently relaying is going. I hope the old system will be ready before 2016 Olympic.

It's very good to see "o bondinho" running again: soon it will ply the streets on Santa Teresa as it did for nearly 120 years .

I wonder why they didn't change the fence upon Arcos da Lapa during the renovation works, choosing a less obtrusive and more pleasant railings instead of this chicken wire.

No, this project is entirely new, and has nothing to do with the place where the old yellow tram operates. The modern tram will operate in the city center. Please refer to the first page of the BRAZIL URBAN TRANSPORT COMPILATION thread for all details.

Not about yellow tram, I'm talking about those routes which were closed in sixties. Those were SG lines, whereas Santa Teresa system is MG line. I think those places will be partly served by low floor tram routes.
