Brisbane by Mornnb

I visited Brisbane earlier this year shortly after the floods, assured by a Brisbanite friend that the city was well cleaned up and fully operational.
I had a blast, I found it a stunningly beautiful city, one deserving to be in the same league as Sydney and Melbourne.

The hostel I stayed at:

Brisbane Square, I was literately dropping my jaw at this stunning example of post modernism.

And Treasury Casino opposite, from a different era, is just as amazing.

Reminded me of home! Looks a lot like Sydney's State Saving Bank.

So much green and gold in Brisbane, perhaps it's a sports thing?

Now, around the river:

Nothing compared to the coathanger, but a nice bridge none the less:

View from the Story Bridge.

View from Kangaroo Point. I kinda wanted to take a few of these buildings back with me and put them in Circular Quay.

This is a great picture. Nice contrast between old and new.

The river has really settled since then. Post-floods it was like a mudslide. It was actually blue today

I must say this is a top collection of pics. Really, really well done. Thanks.

I agree. A good set overall.
To me, there is a sense of normality in those pictures, which is very pleasing.

As for the Palace Hostel, I've read reviews of it and it's a case of "you get what you paid for" and if you want to sleep at night - forget it.

Great photos there. I love the ones from Kangaroo Point in the morning. I think in the early morning light its pretty easy to get a good shot of all that reflective glass. On a clear morning the light is nearly always perfect.

I love the contrast shots too - the old and new.

You got some great photos there Mornnb, including some of the lesser photographed ones like the Smellie & Co building. Did you find time to catch a bus up to Fortitude Valley and Teneriffe? There's some great photos to take up that way.

Also, what was it like staying at the Palace Hostel? As iconic as it is, like Fabian I haven't heard the best things about it.

It's a room with a bed, a desk and a power plug, that's all.
And the air conditioner is annoyingly loud, worse than the summer heat. Yet I managed to sleep through it.
Hey, for $40 a night in the heart of Brisbane's CBD I ain't complaining, it's definitely a case of you get what you pay for. But the location makes up for it, could just pop down to Queens Street Mall whenever I needed anything. It's really for college students like me. :p

I walked around in Fortitude Valley a little bit, but didn't spend much time there.

That was actually in the evening. Sun being behind the skyscrapers made for some interesting effects.
