Yes, landed this afternoon on PR/2P 544 and was able to talked with the pilot again. Flight was weight restricted at 63k... when we landed, spoilers were immediately deployed and thrusts reversed....

Since when was the A320 became an issue for Dumaguete?, they never fly at MTOW; at least not on this airport.

DUMAGUETE CITY, Nov. 15 (PNA) -- Philippine Airlines spokesperson Cielo Villaluna said PAL added one more flight plying the Dumaguete-Manila route and vice versa in the wake of requests from businessmen and local officials.

Villaluna said an appropriate unit is assigned to come up with an assessment to determine the number of flights vis-ā-vis demand and the needs of such a destination in terms of people and cargo.

To date, the Dumaguete-Manila route has five flights daily and one for Cebu-Dumaguete.

Former Finance Secretary Gary Teves said any endeavor should take into account a two-way situation because the airline company cannot just provide for an extra flight if it will not be beneficial for them.

Rep. Pryde Henry Teves of the 3rd district of Negros Oriental would love to see more flights as a gauge of how the tourism industry is working in the Negros Oriental.

This has been proven in several cities like Bacolod, Davao, Iloilo, Boracay and Bohol.

Rep. Teves considered this a challenge of the provincial government to be able to achieve this goal.

Rep. George Arnaiz of the 2nd district disclosed that during his term as governor in 1988, no flight was available and with five daily flights to date, this would mean the province’s accomplishments in pumping up the local tourism industry.

For his part, Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria said more flights for Dumaguete and the province would be better in terms of economic activity and that he is optimistic it will come in due time.

At present, PAL, the oldest airline company in Asia, is tapping the strength of another airline company which is the operating carrier for Dumaguete under the full domestic code share agreement, Villaluna pointed out. (PNA)

I believe PR/2P is still studying that option and haven't added flights YET.

‘PAL hiring not due
to labor dispute’

BY JUANCHO GALLARDE & MARICAR ARANAS

The Philippine Airlines denied reports that the Visayas-wide hiring of cabin crew and pilots is related to the ongoing labor dispute between the management and former ground crew employees.

PAL spokesperson Cielo Villaluna said the jobs fair is part of the company’s effort towards strengthening and developing the services it provides, and the recruitment is for cabin crew and pilot; and not for ground crew.

The company conducted a three-day jobs fair in Dumaguete City early this week. It will also accept applicants at Sugarland Hotel in Bacolod City, November 16 to 18, and in Iloilo City on November 23 to 25.

She said the company decided to bring the jobs fair to the provinces to reach out to more applicants, and said they considered Dumaguete one of the best sources for cabin crew, being the “university city” in the south.

Those accepted will undergo final interview in Manila before being trained for three months. Successful trainees will be subjected to a one year probationary period involving domestic flights.

Villaluna, meanwhile, said the company will assess if one more flight will be added to the Dumaguete-Manila route following requests from businessmen and local officials.

She said this will determine the number of flights vis-ā-vis demand and the need for such destinations in terms of people and cargo.

The Dumaguete-Manila route has five flights daily, and one to Cebu.

Rep. Pryde Henry Teves (Neg. Or., 3rd District) said more flights would mean that the tourism industry in the province is working. This has been proven in Bacolod, Davao, Iloilo, Boracay and Bohol, he added.

Rep. George Arnaiz (2nd District) said there were no flights during his term as governor in 1988. The five flights mean that the province has done something to improve the tourism industry, he added.

Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria said additional air travels to Dumaguete and Negros would be better in terms of economic activity, and said he is optimistic that this will come soon.*JG/MA

Government releases fund for night operations of 14 airports
Sunday, December 9, 2012

THE Department of Budget and Management (DBM) released P933.8 million for a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) project that will allow night landing operations in 14 airports across the country.

The DBM said in a statement Sunday that funds, which were released to the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC), are chargeable against the agency’s lump-sum appropriation for PPP Transport Infrastructure Projects under the 2012 budget.

“Because there’s greater tourist interest in our local destinations, our airports are busier than ever. We’re seeing a larger volume of human traffic and more flights weaving their way in and out of our runways. The night-rating of these 14 airports will enable them to accommodate additional flights in the evening, so that their operations are no longer limited to the daytime,” Budget Secretary Florencio Abad said.

Airports that will receive a night rating are the Tuguegarao, San Jose (Mindoro), Busuanga, Naga, Legazpi, Roxas, Tagbilaran, Dumaguete, Dipolog, Pagadian, Ozamis, Cotabato, Butuan, and Surigao airports.

These airports will also be equipped with facilities necessary for night landing operations, including airfield lighting systems, communications equipment, power supply systems, air disaster management systems, and other systems for managing air traffic services.

Meanwhile, the DBM has approved the creation of 85 new positions under the Bureau of Quarantine to enable better surveillance and improved control measures for infectious diseases and other health concerns.

The positions will be deployed to eight international airports in the country, namely: Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminals I, II, III; Cebu; Clark; Kalibo, Davao; and Laoag.

The 85 positions will complement existing Bureau staff, in accordance to the new policy requiring the maintenance of multiple shifts to allow 24/7 operations in ports and airport terminals.

“Besides ensuring the improvement of our airport facilities, we also need to guarantee the safety and well-being of all passengers shuttling in and out of the country. With more quarantine personnel on the lookout for health hazards, our airports are better-equipped to provide protection not just to airline passengers, but also to Philippine residents who may be compromised by infectious diseases that could be brought in from other countries,” Abad said. DGT has AFL already. Budget could be for ILS procurement.

there were some concerns a few pages back that though DGT might be night rated... it would only be through Runway 27 due to the terrain in the approach to Runway 09.... Plus the possible crosswinds may hit Runway 09 so airlines won't still gamble... hmmm...

I still can't find the history of DGT airport. I was told that SU gym before was an aircraft hangar during WWII. does this mean Silliman before had small airport runway?
