Supertalls World Cup

We've lined up 64 of the world's supertall towers (over 300 meters) either completed, or close to completion in our first Supertall World Cup. Buildings have been seeded according to height in a tournament bracket.

We'll have one matchup per day using the One on One page, which will be open for voting for 7 days, after which the winner moves on to the next round.

The first match will be staged on Tuesday, April 19th and features the world #1 Burj Khalifa, against the #64, the Costanera Center.

It's going to be interesting to see what supertall quarter finalist comes out of the 3rd bracket. Shanghai WFC, John Hancock Center, Al Hamra Tower and Chrysler Building all would make good candidates.

#22 Bank of America Tower vs. #43 Burj Al Arab is a nice first-rounder as well.

My predictions for the quarter finals:

#1 Burj Khalifa vs. #24 Emirates Towers
#45 Chrysler Building vs. #12 Jin Mao Building
#3 Taipei 101 vs. #6 Petronas Towers
#58 Two Prudential Plaza vs. #18 Empire State Building

^ supertall is generally being defined as a building taller of 300 meter and us. Currently we have 52 of those which are completed. In order to get to 64, I added the ones that will be completed either this year or the next. One World Trade Center and the India Tower will sure be part of it the next World Cup in 2015. Im sure the top 64 will be completed by then.

Spot on, gotcha! I was wondering the same thing but thought I should check anyways. Sounds fair, let the games begin! My money is still on BK, call it company loyalty for now.

I hope the Chrysler building wins to but why is it going up against Jin Mao first because I really like Jin Mao it's one of my favorite supertalls in China.

Sometimes strong competitors meet early in a tournament. That's life.

My favorite would be Bank of China tower in HK. Also, I really like Empire State Building. Too bad Woolworth is not high enough...

Edit: Chrysler is not gonna go up against Jin Mao first. Central Plaza is it's first competitor..
