VA have signed a code sharing agreement with Oneworld member AB beginning 1st of August 2013.

Beginning August 1st and on sale from today, Virgin Australia will codeshare on airberlin’s daily direct services from Abu Dhabi – which is the home hub of Virgin partner Etihad – to Dusseldorf and Berlin.

(In return airberlin, which is Germany’s second largest airline, will codeshare on Virgin Australia’s Abu Dhabi to Sydney service, its Phuket to Perth service and nine of Virgin's domestic services within Australia.)

Why so few SFO flights to Austrailia?

It seems bizarre to me that there are no flights to the Pacific beyond Hawaii from SFO (Tahiti, Samoa, Guam, Fiji, etc) and no non-stops to either Brisbane or Melbourne and no service by any Austrailian carrier (Qantas or VirginAU).

What gives? LAX is chocker-block full of them...

United has a daily to SYD and Air New Zealand has a daily to AKL, but that's it?

Sadly, that's the reality since Qantas shifted its SFO-SYD service to DFW, and I wonder how that daily flight is actually doing, especially it is non-stop to Dallas and it makes a stop in Brisbane heading to Sydney. I then wonder when QF will resume its service to SFO, and if ever other Pacific carriers will mount service to San Francisco soon...

Supposedly the SYD-DFW route is receiving excellent yields. The problem with the SYD-SFO route was that SFO itself isn't a major hub/base of operations for American Airlines or any other OneWorld carriers and relied too heavily on O&D traffic. With the SYD-DFW route Qantas can make it easier for connecting passengers to reach other areas of the US.

"Had" some cool liveries as VH-VXB Yananyi Dreaming days are numbered just like big sister VH-OEJ which wore the Wunala Dreaming paint scheme and was repainted in the current mainline Qantas livery in January 2012. There was previously a third livery, Nalanji Dreaming, used on a Boeing 747–338 VH-EBU which is stored at Avalon Airport since 2007 with the livery painted over with blue and used for parts.
