I don't think there'll be anyone here who watches Sticky TV either.
I love this show. Guy Williams writes it, and makes it about as dirty and weird as he could get away with for a kid's TV show. I'm sure this show has an adult fan contingent who watch it as background TV for the good bits (ironic hipster types, maybe uni students who can catch it at 4). When you take the show's name, the 70's porn music, and the woman's voice whispering "Sticky TV", you'd think it's something dirty. Walt and Gerry's antics just get more and more homoerotic. If this was Japan, they'd be Yaoi fodder. Over and over again, one of them is naked (of course you don't see any bits), in the shower, in speedos, not wearing any pants etc. A while back, Mon made them all yellow jelly and chocolate ice cream (i.e. piss and shit), and served it in kid's potties. I'm sure the Broadcasting Standards Authority got complaints for that. My flatmate wants to know why I watch it. There's a secret reason I won't tell him. He guessed "You're gay for Gerry!" Later edit: I am so incensed with this show I'm not sure I can watch it anymore. A kid failed the Quiz Caravan for choosing False when asked "True or False? Your foot and your forearm are the same length?". Measured by the line of the elbow pit, my foot is longer. Measured by the bottom of the elbow, my arm is longer. I think this fact is bullshit. Morgan Freeman's hat tip to NZ
VIDEO Hollywood star Morgan Freeman has given a seemingly random shout out to New Zealand during an interview with David Letterman. Appearing on Letterman's Late Show on Monday night, the Dark Knight Rises star wore a black baseball cap on top of his head that featured the words "New Zealand" as well as the flag and the Southern Cross. As was reported by More FM on Facebook, Freeman, 75, evaded Letterman's questions about why he was wearing the cap. "You're wearing a hat from New Zealand. Rugby World Cup. Are you a rugby fan." "No," replid Freeman. "One of those things." Letterman moved on to question about Freeman's role in The Dark Knight Rises, his TV show Through the Wormhole, and how his injured hand was preventing him from playing golf. Freeman starred as Nelson Mandela in the 2009 Clint Eastwood film Invictus, which featured a rugby match between New Zealand and South Africa. The unusal wardrobe item prompted several positive comments on YouTube. "What an AWESOME cap Mr Freeman? has on... NZ for life!!," said commentator 'sportypaulos'. "One of my all time fav actors and now with a Kiwi hat? - THE MAN!" said 'DrHeuristic'. It isn't the first time New Zealand has featured on Letterman's show. Prime Minister John Key famously hosted Letterman's Top 10 list in 2009 in a guest spot that was paid for by Tourism New Zealand. They didn't respond in time for publication to Herald queries as to whether they had asked Freeman to wear the hat. |

Block director: TVNZ7 was savable ![]() The director of TV3's hit reality TV show The Block says the free-to-air TVNZ7 channel needn't have been closed, and she suspects Television New Zealand may have let the highbrow channel die to “make a point” about funding cuts. Julie Christie, whose knack for selling reality TV formats has made her a millionaire, said TVNZ7 could have continued with a few changes, even though the Government refused to fund it. Replaced by a “Plus One” channel rebroadcasting TV One an hour later, it had been running since 2009, and the closure sparked protests and a "Save TVNZ7" Facebook campaign. “With some clever integration, it could easily still exist. You have to wonder if TVNZ was making a point. If I'd been in charge I'd have absorbed costs and kept it going.” She said the channel could have used TVNZ local programming that airs in poor slots on TV One and TV2, in prime time. “What are your choices at 7pm? It's current affairs or Shortland St. What would you rather have? "That's what I'd be looking at. There's some good fringe stuff on the mainstream channels that's better than what was being made for TVNZ7. There are 5.30pm fishing shows, and little travel shows. Something that goes at 10pm on One could easily have gone at 7pm on TVNZ7.” Her version of TVNZ7 would have a different character, but “in a country this size, we can afford only so much niche TV”. She said TVNZ7 had carried shows that "didn't deserve to be on” but she liked political chat-show Back Benches. “That's a show I'd really like to make, its quirkiness is fantastic. NZ On Air should fund it for TV One at 9.30pm.” Christie said TVNZ7 could also have done “a lot more news-wise", but she suspected it would have been difficult with the “we-will-not-change” attitudes in news. TVNZ spokeswoman Megan Richards said the point of a public service channel was that it supplied material to meet the needs of a country's many niche audiences. "What public broadcasting is not, is another channel to rerun shows that already have a place in a commercial mass broadcaster's schedule. TVNZ is expected to make a solid return on investment. It would not have been possible for us to justify diverting our profit into subsidising a channel that gave no financial return.” |
