DUBLIN | Retail & Entertainment
The cityscape seems to be changing quite a lot these days... plenty of businesses have shut down, but I notice plenty are starting up too, its quite encouraging
So I thought we could have a thread for highlighting new/interesting bars, restaurants, shops and events etc - to keep an eye on the city. For starters there is the new Lafayette bar, taking its name from the building itself, on O Connell bridge, I have to say im fairly fucking happy this building finally has tenants after the Man U store closed, its one of my favourite buildings and one of the most prominent in Dublin. There was a bar there briefly before "Lafayette" called "the edge", but it didnt take off apparently. I havnt checked it out as I am broke but I have to say it looks the part from the outside.

Although I'm probably too old for it (lol!) i think Abercrombie and Fitch are opening in the old Habitat building on College Green. Will be nice though, even just to go in to have a look - at both the clothes and staff

A Disney shop is also opening AFAIK on Grafton Street. Can't see that Northern Quarter being built any time soon though, which probably would have been the biggest development pending before the recession.

That's exactly what crossed my mind when I saw this thread, Viking74. They are indeed opening an Abercrombie and Fitch store there. Should really improve the area, in terms of footfall at least.
There is also a Disney Store opening on Grafton Street pretty soon (18 May). And let's not forget all the rumours of an Apple Store opening at various locations around the city. edit: Beaten to it again!

Haha, they are fairly infamous for their 'aesthetic' hiring practices :P Good news though, and all the more reason to pedestrianise the place!
The new Costa in the old easons building on dawsons st is great I should mention, the interior is preserved so 'tis all very regal :P |

![]() Anyone tried that new American burger place called 'the Counter' on Suffolk Street? Talk about American sized portions!! Excellent stuff. I'm not sure at what stage it's at, but I think there's a new multiplex cinema planned for the top of the Stephen's Green Shopping centre too. I'm still hoping that a second Massimo Dutti shop will open in Grafton Street. There's one in Dundrum and it's excellent. Last edited by Viking74; April 24th, 2011 at 12:38 AM. |

What's the average price of a drink in Dublin these days. It was around €4.30 a pint when I left in 2008 before the crash. Have prices risen/fallen in recent years?

The Disney Store on Grafton Street opened today! Apparently there were queues to get in. I'm a bit old for it but I'll probably still take a look next time I'm walking past.
