I think Rasad is the small one on the left. We have a bunch of others that are waiting to be launched.

You're right. the left one is Rasad which is equipped with a high resolute camera (one can call it a telescope) that takes pictures with an imaging resolution of 150 meters per square. (that means it takes pictures covering a 12-13 meter long square in each pixel).

Two pics of Rasad-1

The current launch vehicle's specs (Safir) vs our new one (simorgh)
check out the increased payload
We will be able to send bigger sats and more importantly get one step closer to an ICBM

Iran to Send More Satellites to Orbit

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran announced it plans to send three more home-made satellites to orbit in coming months.

The announcement came after Tehran successfully sent its second domestically-made satellite named 'Rasad' (Observation) into orbit, redisplaying the country's independence in its space program.

Speaking to the Islamic republic news agency, Head of the Iranian Space Agency (ISA) Hamid Fazeli said that following successful launch of Rasad, the satellites of Kavoshgar 5 (Explorer 5) that will carry animals, Fajr and Navid will be launched into space..

The official added that Kavoshgar 5, with a weight of 285-kg, will be launched in Mordad (fifth month of the Iranian calendar, July 22 - August 22).

Rasad, designed and built by ISA, was launched by the Safir-e-Rasad satellite carrier on Wednesday.

Iran has recently taken wide strides in aerospace. The country sent the first biocapsule of living creatures into space in February, using its home-made Kavoshgar-3 (Explorer-3) carrier.

Iran announced in February that it plans to unveil and send two recently-built satellites into space in the near future.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad had also earlier announced that the country plans to send a home-made measurement satellite into orbit in the near future.

Omid (hope) was Iran's first research satellite that was designed for gathering information and testing equipment. After orbiting for three months, Omid successfully completed its mission without any problem. It completed more than 700 orbits over seven weeks and reentered the Earth's atmosphere on April 25, 2009.

After launching Omid, Tehran unveiled three new satellites called Tolou, Mesbah II and Navid, respectively.

To send ICBM's you need to master multi-stage missiles technology that Iran mastered it several years ago and showed its capability by launching Omid satellite. Sending satellites don't increase your capability to build ICBM's, Having the technology to build accurate multi-stage missile does and Iran already is in possession of the know-how but Iran WILL NOT produce an ICBM ever because that means we have nuclear warheads. you CAN'T AND SHOULD NOT have ICBMs except when you have nukes.

It was supposed to be. Rasad itself was supposed to be launched last year but was launched now.

but having an ICBM can be a deterrent. If you can prove that you have the capability and resources to build a nuke and also have an ICBM, then your enemy will think long and hard before acting.

Having an ICBM without a nuke warhead means that you're making others laugh at you. What can Iran do with an ICBM? It's like 6,000 Kms from the nearest point of Iran's border to New York. what can Iran do with an ICBM? Iran's surface-to-surface missiles use inertial guidance, they are not accurate enough to be strategic. and the chance of hitting somewhere in New York with high accuracy from Iran is not high unless Iran sends its Pars and Toloo satellites and equip them that it can use them to target NY. 'cuz the longer the distance is the less accurate the missile's guidance system would be without satellite guidance. an ICBM without unconventional warhead is not military and economically acceptable. If you mean the knowledge, Iran already is able to have ICBMs, we need to improve other parts of our military industry I think.

plus, how do we want to neutralize thousands of missiles that'll rain on us from the USA and its allies after it? the USA can neutralize most of these types of hostilities, it can't completely defend itself from Iran but it certainly has better anti-missile defense shields than Iran.

I may be going off on a tangent to your wonderful discussion, but if you would excuse me, I would like to express my heartfelt congratulations to the Islamic Republic of Iran for raising its scientific and technological profile on the global level by such an astonishing margin. Not only is Iran the fastest growing scientific power today despite Western manipulations, it is the most advanced among "Muslim" countries (by which I mean "OIC Member states" only) in this regard despite various Western tactics of isolation, threats of violence and mischievous plots against Iran.

Congratulations to IRI.

I made a correction to your post though
IR has nothing to do with it. If anything, they're holding us back.

Of course; it's amazing that Iran is making such progress despite the "IR".

If it were not for the IR, I seriously believe Iran would be among the 5-10 top nations in science and technology today.

Yes we were definitely advancing during the shah years!!! We had foreign employees at our own refinery plants. To deny that Iran is advancing now faster than before is as bad any islamic radical that makes false statements!!
