CHICAGO, December 3, 2012 - The Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) is pleased to announce that O'Hare International Airport has again won the Global Traveler Award for "Best Airport in North America". This is the 13th straight year that O'Hare has received "Best Airport in North America" award by a leading travel magazine.

O'Hare was awarded this honor by business travelers who participated in a survey conducted between January and August 2012. Global Traveler magazine is a business travel and lifestyle magazine for international business travelers.............

The Global Traveler poll asked readers questions in 70 categories related to airlines, hotels, airports, loyalty programs and travel-related products, and the results determined the winners in each category.

More than 28,000 responses were received for the annual survey.

O'Hare has won "Best Airport in North America" award for nine consecutive years, between 2004-2012, from Global Traveler, and four years between 2000-2003 from Global Traveler's predecessor magazine, Business Traveler.

Actually there used to be a Terminal 4 which was located on the ground floor of the parking garage. It was mostly used for international passengers who would check-in there and be taken directly to their aircraft by bus until the current international terminal (Terminal 5) was built.

There is also a possibility that the Terminal 4 designation may be used again in the future as new terminals are developed.

Very nice, except for the fact that the Metra station won't be integrated into the ATS/car park/car rental/bus terminal complex. That right there is a huge fail. Yes, it'll be walking distance, but the Metra station should be under the same roof as everything else here.

Huge fail...unless they're some other plan we don't know about, to provide Metra access to ORD at a different spot.

On a different note, with car-rental moved to this spot, it'll free up space further south, closer to terminal 5, where the car-rental facilities currently are. I wonder if there's plans to do something with that space after the car rentals are moved.

City May Get $292M Federal Loan for O'Hare Transit Project

http://art-nerd.com/blog/skys-the-li...ohare-airport/

Quote:
It's not the mayor's coveted express rail link, but it's something resembling progressive intermodal transit planning for O'Hare. In the works for some time as part of the O'Hare Modernization Program, the city and airport are interested in building an intermodal facility on 33 acres of surface lot at Mannheim Road north of Zemke Boulevard. The plan has been touted before as a consolidation of parking, rental cars, bus service and Metra service that would clear space for a runway extension and a possible Western Terminal 7. However long it takes for that terminal to arrive, it looks like the transportation project will get a move-on soon. The Feds have "invited an application" from the city for a $292M loan specifically for the project depicted in renderings above and below ($884M total cost). All rental car and long-term parking will join together in one garage (space for 4,100 rental cars and 2,000 private cars). Consolidation is nice and all, but a bigger aspect is the plan is to build around the Metra Transfer Station including a link to the ATS train (extended onto the site) and regional buses. At one edge of the facility is the "transit oriented development area" — for now a vague depiction of a tree-studded parking area where some intensified development may occur in the future.

Hello Dear Fellow Skyscrapercitizens!

For my Minor Airport of the Future at the Delft University of Technology I (and my group members) have to analyze ORD airport.
We have FAA data on all flights, runway configurations and basic terminal data, plus the tools for moddeling air traffic flows, capacity issues etc.
Except we can't find details about the terminal, eg. details like number of check in desks, pasport controll etc.

Does anyone know who to contact or where to find this data?

With Regards!
