UTair to sign several agreements with Star Alliance members in near future

MOSCOW. Jan 31 (Interfax) - OJSC UTair Airlines (RTS: TMAT) plans to sign several commercial agreements in the near future with airlines involved in the Star Alliance, the Russian company's general director, Andrei Martirosov, told journalists in Moscow on Tuesday.

"We plan to sign code-sharing and interline-agreements in the near future," he said.

However, Martirosov did not identify the final date of UTair's inclusion in the global airline alliance. "Negotiations are still underway. We need to weight up the pros and cons. Accession [to the Star Alliance] is a balance of interests," he said.

It was earlier reported that UTair has been holding negotiations with Germany's Lufthansa for joining the alliance for some time now but one of the conditions for accession is possession of a modern airliner fleet.

Commenting on upgrades to the company's airline fleet, Martirosov said that UTair will receive eight long-haul Boeing-767 airliners from the second-hand market in the near future. "In addition, we are now in negotiations with Boeing and Airbus for acquiring the same number of new Boeing-767s or A-330s," he said, adding that the new planes would replace older aircraft.

UTair Group includes the same-named airline, as well as UTair-Express, UTair-Ukraine, UTair-Cargo, Turukhan, OJSC Nefteyugansky, Vostok, Peru-based Helisur, UTair (RTS: TMAT) Europe (Slovakia), UTair South Africa, and UTair India.

The group plans to fly over 10 million passengers in 2012. UTair's aircraft fleet includes 200 units. The company is using 41 Boeing-737 and four Boeing-757 airliners.

I guess that are the airplanes Transaero was forced to order. Several financial advantages where granted to Transaero in the 90s, the other hand of the deal was to buy minimum 10 russian made planes. These planes should have been Tu 214, but only three were delivered, UN is not very pleased with the 214s.

True, but SSJ is a different product ) Aeroflot is pleased with it, because its absolutely new in many ways for russian aviation. The most important that the plane could be effective, after some time its possible to say that it is.

And it is gorgeous! And it does retain the flying characteristics of "Sukhoi". All that matters to aviation fanatics.

A child was born onboard of Transaero aircraft heading from Moscow to Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk

Russian Aviaton » Thursday February 2, 2012 18:24 MSK

The crew has reported that parturition has started onboard of the aircraft to the control center of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk airport. All the necessary services have been warned immediately.

The aircraft has landed at Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk airport on 12:28 local time. The jet with the parturient woman has been expected by the employees of airport’s health unit and the city ambulance. After the professional medical inspection, the mother and child have been transported to the ambulance using a lift truck and delivered to the local maternity hospital.

It is the fourth child for 45-years old Aygul Kochorovoy.

One of the passengers, Makhortova Zoya Ivanovna, was a nurse-midwife. She and Transaero’s flight attendants have helped Aygul to deliver the child.

"Administration of FSUE “Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk Airport” expresses thanks to Makhortova Zoya Ivanovna for professional medical aid during parturition on board of the aircraft. We congratulate the happy mother and send best wishes to her child", - the airport reports. We remind you that it is the first case of delivering a child onboard in the history of Transaero.

And regarding previous news:

Transaero is negotiating on acquisition of Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft

Russian Aviaton » Thursday February 2, 2012 18:22 MSK

CEO of Transaero, Olga Pleshakova, told Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper that the airline is negotiating on acquisition of Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft.

"Now that consolidation of assets is over the Russian aircraft industry is reviving. It is very important that this industry is considered as one of the top-priority ones in the network of retrieval of Russia’s technological leadership. I think that our aircraft industry has failed to launch the serial production of Tu-214, because it was not a leap-ahead project. It was based on former Soviet reserves and did not meet the requirements of modern market. We have ordered 10 such jets just to support our aircraft industry. And they were able to deliver only three of them», - Pleshakova noted.

«Now the indigenous medium-haul Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft is here. The excellent state-of-the-art liner is as good as foreign analogues. Our company is negotiating on its acquisition. I believe that it is suitable for regional transportation inside Russia», - Pleshakova said.

She also noted that Transaero is going to take part in a project for development of long-haul wide-body Russian liner.

Great news. 2 years ago there used to be 6 weekly flights during Summer on B763. Last few years it is 4 all around and prices are higher. I wonder if the 5th flight will drop prices just a bit. I fly 2 - 4 times a year LAX-SVO-LAX.

There were some talks about Star Alliance. No details though. I think they are evaluating possible benefits but UtAir is #1 candidate and i am not sure they need 2 carriers from Russia in the same alliance. Time will show.

Is that because UTair flies more regional and Star Alliance didn't cover so far Russian soil? On the other hand is Transaero a much bigger airline and has better prospects in the future. And I don't really think that having 2 Russian airlines in one alliance is an issue, i believe there are 3 Chinese airlines in SkyTeam

Transaero has bad domestic flights cover, and Star needs a strong presence on a local russian market, UTair can suggest what they need, other two carriers S7 & Aeroflot are already taken, S7 has the best route map across the country, Aeroflot is also growing fast and put new local flights. So UTair is the last one who can offer good route map.
