Why dont all Moscow airports close and open up one large airport like BER? It would save space, and probobly cost less to operate one large airport.

I think there are advantages to run more than one airport in cities like Moscow:
- when one airport temporary closes, the traffic can be diverted to the other airports of the city
- Moscow is growing and growing, the same with the traffic, quite nice traffic can be splitted on the airports?
- competition between the airports, if there is competion, airports need to get better to hold the traffic, I am convinced that the situation would still be like in the 90ies if there was no competition, and believe me: Moscows airport where horrible places in the 90ies

Look at cities like NY oder London, both have more than one airport ...
