Bomb threat diverts Moscow-bound Aeroflot flight

A Russian Aeroflot Airbus A330 flight from New York to Moscow has made an emergency landing in Iceland's Keflavik airport after a bomb threat, but no bomb was found.

An anonymous caller had warned New York police that a bomb was inside luggage on board the plane.

Aeroflot spokeswoman Irina Dannenberg said the pilot decided to land the aircraft, and that it landed safely.

A search of the plane and its luggage turned up no explosives, police spokesman Vidir Reynisson told the BBC.

The 256 passengers, who were searched after being taken off the plane, were to return to Moscow on another Aeroflot aircraft later on Thursday, the company said on its website.

Flight 103 from John F Kennedy airport in New York had been scheduled to land at Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport before being diverted to Keflavik.

The anonymous caller warned that there were five suitcases on the plane containing explosives, which would detonate once it reached Moscow.

"The bomb threat was made sometime earlier in the morning and at 05:30 GMT the plane decided to head for Keflavik," said Fridthor Eydal, a spokesman for the airport. "The aeroplane landed safely at 06:27," he said.

Another plane in Russia's city of Voronezh, 500 km (300 miles) south of Moscow, was also searched after an anonymous threat, but no explosives were found.

Lol, of course not, its obviously a render[you can tell by how the blue has too much violet.] The livery fits the A380 pretty well at least.

Transaero codeshare puts Virgin Atlantic in driving seat to win London-Moscow slots

News Thursday, 23 August 2012 14:08

A new codeshare with Transaero has put Virgin Atlantic in the driving seat to win 14 weekly slots between Moscow and London, an industry expert has claimed.

The airline, which is battling with BA and easyJet to win bmi’s London–Moscow flights, has signed a codeshare agreement with Transaero Airlines for the Russian carrier’s twice daily Moscow–Heathrow route.

The CAA launched a scarce capacity review, earlier this year, to find a new airline to operate the flights, once bmi suspends operations in October.

A source in the aviation legal sector said the Transaero codeshare would put Virgin Atlantic in a “good position” in the race to win the flights.

He said that easyJet “had some work to do” to convince the CAA of its suitability, following its failure to fly to Cairo, following a similar scarce capacity review in 2010.

The source added: “EasyJet was the runaway favourite to win Cairo, and it did, but because of the way things worked out, easyJet has not, to my knowledge operated a single flight there since.

“So given the fact that the last scarce capacity review has failed to increase competition, and presuming the CAA has learnt from that lesson, Virgin Atlantic has a very good chance of winning the Moscow flights.

“They can point to the fact that they have already entered into a codeshare with Transaero. EasyJet needs to do some work and the CAA will be aware of what happened with Cairo.”

In addition to the Heathrow–Moscow codeshare, Transaero will also put its code on Virgin flights from London to Los-Angeles, San-Francisco, Boston and Orlando.

Connections can also then be made between JFK, Newark and Johannesburg.

Virgin Atlantic has also extended its codeshare with US Airways to the US carrier’s service between Philadelphia and London Heathrow.

Julie Southern, CCO of Virgin Atlantic, said: “We are thrilled to announce this new code share with Transaero. Our passengers will enjoy the advantages of this new partnership and we look forward to welcoming Transaero customers on board our flights.

“This is also an exciting development in the relationship between Virgin Atlantic and US Airways. This agreement will allow us to satisfy the demand for our brand in US cities where there is no direct Virgin Atlantic flight to London.”

Virgin Atlantic to Launch Flights to Moscow

Virgin Atlantic is planning to launch flights to Moscow after they were able to acquire operating slots at Heathrow, slots that were given up by British Airways. The planned Moscow flights are scheduled to begin next year on Airbus SAS A330 wide-body jets.

European Commission regulators have ordered British Airways to give up these slots as a result of their takeover of BMI. Chief Executive Officer Virgin Atlantic, Steve Ridgway, said these new flights to Moscow will help their strategy of feeding their long-haul network with more short-haul flights.

Virgin Atlantic will be applying for all 12 available slots at Heathrow and they plan to use at least seven of those slots for flights to Scotland. Flights to Moscow will make Russia the thirds BRIC country served by Virgin Atlantic, along with China and India. The new flights will also increase the number of connections with their trans-Atlantic flights, which are the mainstay of their business.

Wezza, usually B767. My advice better to take plane from Moscow, variety of flights is huge and planes are more comfortable, UN 767s dont have entertainment onboard, planes are quite old.

I thought it would be 767. My girlfriend & I are going to either Thailand or Egypt over the new year period. We don't know whether we'll leave from Kazan or Moscow yet.

I saw this photo already. The holiday deals from Kazan are a good price, I think I can put up with that cabin for the price. Though I apparently have to pay more for the hotel in Thailand because I'm Australian.
