Aeroflot Boeing 777-300ER Grounded by Missing Certificate

MOSCOW, January 31 (RIA Novosti) – Russia's largest airline, Aeroflot, has been forced to cancel the first commercial flights by its new Boeing 777-300ER airliners scheduled for Friday due to lack of a type certificate for the plane, Aeroflot said on Thursday.

The Interstate Aviation Committee (MAK), which oversees use and management of civil aircraft in the CIS, has not issued a type certificate for the -300ER variant of the Boeing 777 aircraft and the Russian aviation watchdog Rosaviatsia cannot grant permission for the operation of the new airliner, Aeroflot said, referring to a Rosaviatsia statement.

“In view of this, Aeroflot is forced to postpone the first commercial flight scheduled for February 1,” the airline said in a statement.
Earlier variants of the Boeing 777 aircraft, the Boeing 777-200 and -300 series, have already been certified in Russia.

Aeroflot had planned to start operating Boeing 777-300ER airlines from February 2013. The first Boeing 777-300ER aircraft was delivered to Aeroflot on January 30, 2013.

Aeroflot said it expected to receive 13 Boeing 777 aircraft in 2013-2015.

That is very intriguing. I don't know what's going on with the Russian aviation authority... I sense that Boeing should've been alerted prior to delivery that MAK will need to certify its B77W variant first so that they could fly as scheduled on 1 February rather than waiting for just one document to go through. I sense that it is very bad because it just adds a layer of bureaucracy when the only differences between the B773 and B77W would be the range and engine types used.

773 and 77W are actually quite different planes.There are various systems and equipments that are different. Some times the 77W and 77L are called the 777NG, 777 next generation.

Ouch. So what would be the compensation for passengers flying with that airline? Will those be rebooked to other airlines? And wherever Red Wings aircraft are (be it at their Moscow hub or somewhere else), those would stop flying? I can sense that if a Red Wings aircraft happens to be in Novosibirsk, it will be stuck there... is that the policy?

@fieldsofdreams:
According to the website, passengers for scheduled services are rebooked on Aeroflot flights, except passengers for Nalchik - those are rebooked on VIM Avia.
I don't know what will be with passengers for charter services. Usually the russian government orders companies bringing their citinzins home.

Mr.Lebedev, Red Wings owner has stated, that he will not start operation even if they get a new certificate later. Means its over, -1 airline in Russia.

His personal bias or the government is pushing on him (seems like the last)?

Why shows winter timetable? In winter timetable is only BKK and HKT. To NYC only from 31.3.
