Aeroflot resumes direct regular flights to Canada

OTTAWA, (Itar-Tass) - Russian’s Aeroflot airline after a four-year break on Sunday, June 2, resumed direct regular flights from Toronto to Moscow. Representative of the airline in the United States Andrei Novokshonov told Itar-Tass that the Boeing-767 airliner took off from Pearson International Airport and will land at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo on Monday morning.

“The flights will be performed three times a week - on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays,” said Novokshonov, who was engaged in the relevant organisational issues in Toronto. “The Flight time is approximately nine hours. Besides the Boeings, the Airbus airliners are also included in the winter schedule on this route. Aeroflot predicts a high demand for direct flights to Toronto.”

According to Novokshonov who arrived in the afternoon from Moscow, an “inauguration” was arranged for Russia’s Boeing at the airport - according to the tradition observed all over the world. “After landing at the approach to the terminal the plane met with a ‘water salute’ from two fire engines - on both sides of the plane they created a kind of an arch of water,” the airline representative said.

Aeroflot for the first time started to make flights to Toronto in 1998, and before that - for more than 30 years - it was performing flights to Montreal. In 2009, at the height of the global financial crisis, the Board of Directors of the airline decided to suspend flights to the capital of the province of Ontario, “given the decline in demand and the need to optimise the use of the air fleet.” Since then, only the Transaero airline has operated on this route.

ch-aviation.ch reported, this wasn't mentioned here before?
Quote:
26MAY2013: Aeroflot to switch some Orenair, all of Donavia's flights to wet-lease Aeroflot (SU, Moscow Sheremetyevo) are set to convert several flights operated by its subsidiaries from codeshares to wet-leases. With effect from June 17, Orenair (R2, Orenburg) flights operated in conjunction with Aeroflot from Moscow Sheremetyevo to Irkutsk, Krasnodar and Khabarovsk, operated by a B737-800 and a B777-200, will switch to a wet-lease. Likewise, from September 1, Donavia (D9, Rostov) and its entire network which extends throughout Russia, Turkey, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Armenia and Israel will also switch to a wet-lease. All flights will then operate and be sold under the SU code of Aeroflot.
Looks like a roll back, since a Aeroflot-Nord a/c on behalf of Aeroflot crashed in perm, Aeroflot-Nord and Aeroflot-Don were note aloud to use Aeroflot in their brand name anymore.

S7 becomes the second appointed carrier on routes to Poland and Finland

Russian Aviation »

S7 Airlines will benefit the most from demonopolization of international airlines carried out by the Ministry of Transport, Kommersant reports.

The Federal Air Transport Agency unveiled the report of proceedings at the meeting of inter-departmental commission held in late April and dedicated to appointing carriers for international routes. According to the document, Sibir Airlines becomes the second appointed carrier on three popular European destinations.

The carrier now has the permission to perform flights from Moscow to Warsaw (14 flights per week) and Krakov (7 flights per week). Only Aeroflot was being performing flights on these routes before (and LOT Polish Airlines on the part of Poland).

S7 Airlines was also appointed for Moscow-Helsinki route - the carrier will be performing seven flights per week. The first appointed carriers – Aeroflot and Finnair will be able to perform 14 flights per week.

The changes made in the network of demonopolization of international airlines carried out by the Ministry of Transport are very important for S7.

Moreover, the commission decided to expand the geography of flights performed from Sochi. On the threshold of Winter Olympics 2014 the Federal Air Transport Agency allowed Orenair to perform flights from Sochi to the largest European cities – London, Hannover, Madrid, Amsterdam, Oslo, Bratislava, Helsinki, Zurich and Stockholm.

It's a bit different. It'll now be Donavia and Orenair for Aeroflot operated by Aeroflot.
