Aeroflot's Low-Cost Carrier Dobrolet Starts Commercial Flights

MOSCOW, June 10, 2014 /CNW/ - Aeroflot (Moscow Exchange ticker: AFLT) announces that Dobrolet, its wholly owned low-cost carrier subsidiary, has completed its first commercial flight from Moscow to Simferopol.

A ceremony to mark the maiden flight at Sheremetyevo International Airport, Aeroflot's international hub in Moscow, was attended by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, senior executives from Russia's transport industry and Aeroflot's top management.

Aeroflot launched a low-cost carrier project to achieve its strategic goal of increasing the availability of air travel for Russian citizens and to further develop air travel as the most efficient form of passenger transport in Russia. The new carrier was named in honour of a predecessor of today's Aeroflot - JSC Dobrolet.

The low-cost model is based on maintaining tight control of costs, particularly on some elements of service. As a result, Dobrolet's transportation costs are 20%-30% lower than classical established carriers, and may be further reduced in future.

Simferopol is Dobrolet's first key destination, with four daily flights to the Crimean city contributing to the transport integration of Crimea with other regions of Russia.

In August, Dobrolet will launch flights to St Petersburg and Samara. The route network will subsequently expand to other Russian regions, and from 2016 Dobrolet plans to fly to international destinations, primarily in Europe and the CIS.

The new airline's fleet will consist of new Boeing 737-800NGs in one-class configuration designed to carry 189 passengers. By the end of 2014 Dobrolet will operate eight aircraft.

Dobrolet plans to increase its fleet to 40 aircraft by 2018, operating 45 routes and carrying more than 10 million passengers.

"Our budget carrier Dobrolet is a project of a strategic importance not only for Aeroflot Group, but for the whole country," said Vitaly Saveliev, CEO of Aeroflot and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Dobrolet. "Support from the President and Prime Minister played an important role in helping us launch this project by approving regulatory amendments that cleared the way for the development of a competitive low-cost transportation in Russia.

"The low-cost carrier business model is in high demand worldwide and especially in our vast country, as it gives millions of Russians with average income the opportunity to fly, significantly increases personal mobility and thereby contributes to the country's social and economic development," Vitaly Saveliev said.

According to the Heathrow website, Transaero airline (which runs 2 flights daily to DME) is due to be transferred from current terminal 1 to terminal 4 on 26th of October. Apparently, they are trying to free up T1, and Transaero is pretty much the only non-StarAlliance member in it (located in T1 since time when it had codeshare with SA member BMI), so it is moved to T4 rather than newly built T2, where all SA members are going.

Yeah same, all the flights that I've been on where mostly very crowded that it wasn't comfortable moving anywhere. I hope that at least a few times I will be lucky enough to witness an empty flight that I'd be able to fully lay down on a few seats like he did for sleep.

Transaero Airlines Signs for 20 Airbus A330 Aircraft becoming the Launch Customer of the A330neos and the First Carrier in Europe to Commit to This Type

http://transaero.ru/en/company/press...0714-press2-en

On July 17, 2014, Transaero Airlines signed a Letter of Intent with Airbus for 20 A330 Aircraft (8 A330ceo and 12 A330neo). Thus, Transaero Airlines has become a launch customer and the first European airline to commit to the A330neo.

By signing this agreement, Transaero completes its order portfolio for foreign-made aircraft for the next five years, which comprises modern long range and medium range widebody and narrowbody aircraft: А380s, Boeing 747-8s, A330neos, A330сеоs, А321s, Boeing 737-800s and A320neos.

The А330 aircraft will be a part of the Transaero’s medium range and long range widebody aircraft fleet.

“Maintaining the balance between proven technologies and new fuel efficiency and passenger comfort solution, the A330neo will enable smooth integration in Transaero fleet and represent an attractive investment profile for our financial partners”, said Alexander Krinichanskiy, Executive Director of Transaero.

“This significant order from Transaero proves that both the A330ceo and the A330neo offer airlines unmatched efficiency, working in tandem to improve airline profitability and passenger comfort. We are delighted that a leading European airline has selected both the A330neo and A330ceo," said John Leahy, Airbus Chief Operating Officer.

The A330neo is a re-engined version of the popular A330 widebody aircraft family. The program was launched in July 2014 with first deliveries scheduled to start in Q4 2017. The A330neo incorporates latest generation Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, aerodynamic enhancements and new cabin features. Benefitting from these new enhancements, the A330neo reduces fuel consumption by 14% per seat, making it the most cost efficient medium range widebody aircraft on the market. In addition to this, the A330neo will feature a flight range increase of up to 740 kilometers.

Transaero Airlines launched services in 1991 and today is the second largest carrier in the Russian Federation. In 2013 Transaero carried 12.5 million passengers. Transaero Airlines ranks among the top 35 airlines in the world and the top 10 in Europe in terms of passenger turnover.Currently, Transaero operates the fleet of 101 aircraft including twenty Boeing 747s, fourteen Boeing 777s, seventeen 767s, forty five 737s, three Tupolev Tu-214 and two Tu-204-100C aircraft. Transaero has the largest widebody aircraft fleet in Russia, the CIS and Eastern Europe. Transaero serves more than 200 destinations in Russia, Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas.
