Aeroflot named Best Airline in Eastern Europe for fifth time at Skytrax World Airline Awards

12 July 2016, Moscow. – PJSC Aeroflot (Moscow Exchange ticker: AFLT) today took the Best Airline in Eastern Europe award for the fifth time and fourth straight year at the Skytrax World Airline Awards, held during the Farnborough Air Show near London.
“Winning Skytrax’s Eastern European award for a fifth time is not only a sign that we consistently perform at a high level,” Aeroflot CEO Vitaly Saveliev said. “Above all, it sends a message that we can successfully develop and raise our status amid a challenging external environment, and that we can be truly competitive globally.”
The World Airline Awards – the Oscars of the civil aviation industry – are held annually by UK agency Skytrax. Winners are determined based on the world’s largest customer satisfaction survey, which Skytrax first carried out in 1999.
Millions of airline passengers from more than 100 countries take part in the annual online survey. Skytrax evaluates more than 40 service quality indicators as part of the review. Approximately 250 airlines compete for the awards.
Earlier this year Aeroflot was awarded Four Star Airline Status by Skytrax, the first Russian airline to achieve this distinction. The rating places Aeroflot alongside global peers such as Air France, Lufthansa, British Airways and Emirates.

Russians should develop their own new cargo and passenger aircraft. They invested too much money in western equipment. I've heard that Volga-Dnepr is buying around 20 new B-747 cargo planes.

Back in the past Aeroflot used only soviet made airplanes. These days they only use Sukhoi superjet. When I was younger I was used to see Tu-154, Tu-134 and Il-86. Now these sights are rare. Hope the things will change when MS-21 Irkut takes to the skies.

Russia considering sale of Aeroflot subsidiary Rossiya

The Russian Transport Ministry has been instructed to submit proposals for the potential sale of Aeroflot (SU, Moscow Sheremetyevo) subsidiary Rossiya (FV, St. Petersburg), the Vedomosti business daily reports. Although no official reason has been given for the move, it is believed that concerns have been raised over the Aeroflot Group’s dominance on the Russian market and Rossiya’s financial performance.

Aeroflot assumed full control of Rossiya on March 30, 2014 having acquired the carrier from Russian state tech-industrial corporation, Rostec, in 2011. It has since positioned the airline as a mid-tier consolidated entity to cover the domestic and regional leisure market, increasingly shifting its operations from St. Petersburg to Moscow Vnukovo. Deputy economic minister Yevgeni Yelin told Vedomosti, “We should develop air connections not only from Moscow but from St. Petersburg as well. We back privatisation and competition”.

Earlier this year the Aeroflot Group merged its Donavia (D9, Rostov), Rossiya and Orenair (ORB, Orenburg) subsidiaries into one encompassing airline under the Rossiya brand as part of a drive aimed at adapting its multi-brand strategy to new market conditions. However, government sources have said that Aeroflot has failed to turn Rossiya’s finances around as the airline is still making losses and has been unsuccessful in overtaking rival S7 Airlines (S7, Novosibirsk) as the second busiest carrier in Russia in terms of passenger numbers so far this year.

Rossiya to lease five ex-Emirates B777-300ERs

The aircraft in question are believed to be ex-Emirates (EK, Dubai Int'l) machines A6-EBA (msn 32706), A6-EBL (msn 32709), A6-EBS (msn 32715), A6-EBT (msn 32730), and A6-EBP (msn 32710).
Parent company Aeroflot (SU, Moscow Sheremetyevo) will discuss the lease agreement for its subsidiary at a Board of Directors meeting scheduled for October 17 and decide whether to issue guarantees for the deal. Furthermore, the carrier will look into withdrawing two Rossiya B777-200(ER)s from service.
Rossiya began revenue B777 operations this April. It currently utilizes five B777-300s in addition to the two B777-200(ER)s. The carrier is expected to take over more widebody aircraft from Transaero Airlines (UN, Moscow Vnukovo), however, their delivery has been delayed due to issues relating to documentation. Under an agreement with Russian banks VTB and Sberbank, the jets must be delivered by the end of the year.

It's this kind of thought process that doomed the Russian civil aviation industry in the first place.

Aircraft are high cost, high value aircraft which require hundreds and even thousands of orders to justify the return on investment, it can no longer simply be designed for a specific market. Had the MC21 and SSJ100 been solely designed as a "made by Russia for Russia" aircraft, they would never have gotten off the ground. Besides, Russia's population is only slightly larger than Japan's, that's not large to sustain a civil aviation industry on.

I suppose DME-SIP will be operated 5x weekly, 5x daily seems unrealistic. Are all these new operations or just a switch from Orenair and Rossyia already operated AFL flights in partnership?

What are you talking about? Aeroflot's plans of flying from DME are cancelled.
