Apapa-Oshodi Expresseway: Lagos plans massive road diversions to check traffic
Following the persistent chaotic traffic situation on Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, the Lagos State Government, yesterday, set up a team of traffic managers to work out modalities on how to address the situation.

Similarly, the state government will today engage various unions and management of the Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, and Federal Ministry of Works in a stakeholders’ meeting to proffer a permanent solution to the menace of indiscriminate parking of tankers and containers (haulage) on roads in the state.

Apapa-Oshodi Expressway

The state Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Kayode Opeifa, told newsmen, when he led a delegation of staff of the ministry on an unscheduled inspection of Apapa-Oshodi expressway, that the state government was disturbed by the persistent traffic gridlock on the road, which is one of the biggest and busiest seaports in West Africa and beyond and generates huge revenues to the Federal Government.

In addition to the several tank farms located on the road, without loading bay, the commissioner noted that other factors contributing to the terrible traffic situation were the ongoing construction on the expansion of Apapa-Oshodi expressway project, the deplorable condition of the road, worsened by flooding and indiscriminate parking of tankers and other articulated vehicles, which reduce the carriageway capacity to one lane instead of three.

Ibadan Flyover

Quote:
Ibadan — As part of efforts to tame traffic congestion in Oyo State, Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State yesterday flagged-off the construction of a fly-over bridge that will gulp N2.13 billion at Mokola roundabout in Ibadan.

The fly-over bridge, according to him, is being handled by Messrs CCECC Nigeria Limited and is expected to be completed within 12 months.

He said the flag-off on the Sango-Mokola-Dugbe Road was a testimony of his administration's commitment to ensuring that the citizens of the state live better life.

"It is a testimony to the fact that we desire good and robust life for the people of Oyo State," he said.

Even though, the road is a federal road, he added it was one of the tools to reduce conflict at intersections which will consequently reduce accidents, loss of lives and man-hour wastage at junctions.
