This is what was said @ the DDA Meeting in May...

"...R-2 Wave Update
Mr. Wren said they just went to Atlanta on 4/15 with the principals from the partnership to include: DDA, Greg Stuart with the MPO, Tim Garling with the BCT and Bill Cross with the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA aka Tri-Rail). He said the meeting was great and that FTA is impressed with the progress. Mr. Wren said Dr. Taylor, the Region Administrator, even talked about new funding opportunities to come available soon. He mentioned that Keith Melton, a Region FTA Planner came to Fort Lauderdale recently and walked the proposed route. He said additional staff will be here on the 19th. Mr. Wren added that Mr. Melton mentioned he has seen Miami and West Palm’s Downtown’s and thought Fort Lauderdale’s geography was better. Mr. Wren talked about the upcoming FTA submission timeline.
Mr. Wren brought up the local assessment efforts and indicated staff was going through a support letter campaign, of which, many of the Board members had sent in updated letters. For those that have not, he asked them to kindly do so. Mr. Bodenhamer asked how many dollars will be needed for consultants beyond what has been budgeted and Mr. Wren said no monies. Mr. Milledge said once they get rated by the federal government, there is already a federal grant that is available to support the next phase of required work. Mr. Petrillo asked about the $250,000 the Board authorized back in May 2010 and whether there are funds left. Mrs. Van Zandt said that as part of the recent budget amendment in April 2011, there are funds remaining that will cover additional work on the maintenance and storage facility site refinement and other consultant needs that the SFRTA has pledged to partner with and help fund..."

we'll see what was said for June...

Good to hear some recent news.... I'd like to see them post New maps and renderings.... This might serve as an example for other cites to use streetcars in the future.

If they Build the initial segment in the near future... I would expect a extension to FLL soon after.... Connecting the Downtown to the Airport is key in any Urban area

Thanks for the Update. Is it still possible that they could add a segment of track to Tri-rail to allow better connectivity?

FDOT (Central Broward East-West project) is taking care of connecting Tri-Rail and the airport with downtown, assuming their project moves along. I think a phase two of the Wave should connect the beach and downtown (Central Terminal) via Las Olas Blvd.

I agree. So the wave has received the go ahead from the New Starts FTA grant to commence project design? But the central Broward line doesnt seem like it will be created in the next 10 years. So I think there should be a small extension to the Tri-rail station.

Im excited about the wave streetcar , even though i dont live in ft.laudurdale... I visit there often.. and i am suprised that up till now.. this relatively large city has had no transit.

What i envison for Ft.laudurdale is the Wave connected to a light rail system that will connect the Airport/Port to downtown and the Tri-rail station

And btw not till the next month:

Board Meetings are held on the 2nd Thursday of every
month at 8:30 a.m. at the Broward Center for the
Performing Arts.

Agendas are posted by the Friday before the meeting and
minutes are posted by the Friday after the Board Meeting

Update on the Wave:

"IT'S TIME WAVE FANS! We're submitting our Environmental Assessment Report to the Federal Transit Administration next week and want to include as many support letters as possible! Don't have time to write a letter? Send us an email and let us know why you support the Wave! elizabeth@ddaftl.org"

Done! One of the future stations is just 2 blocks from my house. If only this system was connected to Tri-Rail i'd definitely say goodby to my car (during weekdays). Although driving every day to the station is not that bad either...

I Sent a Person from the DDA an Email. She Responded :

"I’m sure you read the July E-Blast. That pretty much covers it. With the addition of SFRTA as the FTA project sponsor and design/construction managers of the system, we’re positioning ourselves nicely with FTA. In addition to the normal project funding program FTA has (and we’re pursuing), we’re also going after a new funding opportunity that COULD help accelerate the project schedule, if we’re successful with the grant application. We will know if we’ve been awarded through this new program by the end of this year. Our current completion date has been pushed to 2015, but we’re hopeful this can get moved up given funding awards and incentives we plan to give to the contractors, once we’re ready to construct the system.

We submit our environmental assessment next week, which is a HUGE milestone. Once we’re environmentally cleared, it opens doors for us to move into the next phase, be more competitive for funding opportunities, etc.

***** (My Name) , how did you hear about the Wave? Do you live, work or play downtown?"

Any recent news? Is the project still on Time for completion in september 2014?

This scares me:

Quote:
GOOD NEWS! The South Flori-da Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA aka “Tri-Rail”) have joined the Wave partner-ship! They have happily agreed to be the FTA project sponsor and to oversee the design and construction of the system. This is a huge step to have an agency that has designed and built trains and will strengthen our project rating with the FTA.
Maybe it's just me, but Tri-Rail sponsoring the Wave leads me to believe there may potentially be some push against commuter rail on the FEC to protect their interest...

No the orginazation that runs Tri-rail will also run the FEC Passanger rail, In fact if you read the document on the Study's website, they are to run in unison, supplementing each other.

In fact, If the wave is ever extended to the Tri-Rail station on broward blvd, then the Wave could be a connection between the two.

Ahh, great to know. In that case, they'll be pushing even harder for it instead of against it.

Now that would make too much sense. Doesn't stand a chance.

Seems like the Wave is getting closer to becoming a Reality.
